🤓 A pleasure to contribute to the insightful article on cost effective manufacturing for the cultivated meat industry by our good friends at Newland Syndicate - give it a read! 🤓 The team dives deep into the technological breakthroughs required to unlock cost-effective and commercial-scale manufacturing of cell-cultivated products, as well as a cause true to our heart 💘 - collaborative manufacturing models such as CDMO's and CMO's 💘
Following on from New Lens #1, Joao, Tracy and Miguel return for part #2 to explore the role Collaborative Manufacturing Models can play in scaling the Cultivated Meat industry. Thank you to our friends Will and Nico at Extracellular for generously contributing to the article. https://lnkd.in/dFEs7f-D

👊 In our bumper Q4 2024 edition, we featured Extracellular a UK-based firm, that is playing a pivotal role in accelerating the commercialization of cultivated meat by offering expert contract research and manufacturing services. "We help with certain pain points of their R&D journey," explains Chief Commercial Officer Nico Hutton, who emphasizes that Extracellular supports startups by scaling technologies from lab to commercial levels. This enables companies to avoid costly pilot-scale facilities and leverage biomanufacturing expertise. Nico stresses the importance of partnerships and specialization within the cultivated meat industry. "The industry needs a functioning global ecosystem where players specialize in specific activities and fill gaps in others’ capabilities," he says. Extracellular focuses on areas like suspension adaptation of cell lines, optimizing media, and scaling bioprocesses, while allowing clients to concentrate on product development and regulatory approval. A notable success includes scaling Merck Group's species-specific media to 200 liters in just five months, cutting costs and timelines by over 70%. Nico believes that by delivering high-quality cultivated meat products, the industry can gain widespread societal and governmental support. 🤝Get to know more about Nico and Extracellular in our ones to watch feature in the latest edition of Protein Production Technology International: https://hubs.ly/Q032KH7F0 #CellularAgriculture #Cultivatedmeat #Biotechnology #FoodInnovation #FutureOfFood

📌 Today, the UK House of Lords Science and Technology Committee published its report: "Don’t fail to scale: seizing the opportunity of engineering biology" 🍔 The report highlights cultivated meat as one of the key opportunities for engineering biology in the UK! In particular, the report references Meatly's cultivated pet food, the first approval in Europe, and Bristol-based Extracellular as shining examples of UK cultivated meat companies! ✅ The report recommends the UK government investing in skills training for these new industries, improving regulations for these new products, supporting innovation through public procurement, and educating the public about these technologies. 👏 This is another great sign of the UK's positive intent on cultivated meat!!

We're recruiting to train up the next generation of bioprocessing talent, so if you know anyone who's looking for an entry-level role, feel free to share this post with them! The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about applying their education in a STEM subject, and will be trained to run bioreactors from 1L to 200L, in batch and perfusion modes. No bioreactor experience needed. No PhD necessary. We will be reviewing candidates who submit their application by 1st December 2024. **APPLICATIONS FROM RECRUITERS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED**

👀 Want to learn more about the continuous process we've been working on behind the scenes? Watch our fantastic Ellen Parker present the data at The International Scientific Conference on Cultured Meat (ISCCM) - go to 51m through 👀 🕶 We were able to achieve an incredible 380g/L+ across a 36-day process in our 1L system (0.8L working volume) 🕶 With these results, cost competitive cell-based products becomes closer then ever to becoming a reality Fantastic work from our A-star team that worked on this project Ellen Parker, Benedict Sale, Mozes Pajer, Emilie van der Gronden and lionel zapata vega

Its been a great first day at The International Scientific Conference on Cultured Meat (ISCCM), not least because our very own Ellen Parker was on the main stage presenting on our work on continuous, intensified process development work! Be sure to stop by the poster sessions to meet Mozes Pajer and Benedict Sale, who are sharing more about high-throughput media optimisation and cell line development. And Prithvi Kodialbail is also there to talk about how we partner across the industry. #cellularagriculture #cultivatedmeat #scaleup #manufacturing
