Today, we recognise the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence and the European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. The theme of the European day, is 'Emerging technologies: threats and opportunities for the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.' Our team is resolutely committed to driving forward research and insights in this area, to lead to real change in the global fight against online child sexual abuse. Our work, with partners such as the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and Protech Project aims to influence real world solutions to this growing threat, with the ultimate goal of protecting children from harm. #EndChildSexualAbuseDay

Our Deputy Director Anna Markovska and our Dawes Chair of Public Protection, Prof Tim McSweeney, travelled to San Francisco last week for the American Society of Criminology annual conference. Anna led a roundtable discussion which explored the impact of war and conflict on policing, corruption, PTSD, propaganda, and investigative journalism. Tim presented findings from his serious and organised crime study during a session on the policing and prosecution of this type of offending. Thank you to Tim and Anna for sharing their insights and research to a global audience.

Important and useful resources here from the #CSETaskforce. Language matters.
Every word shapes a life. When talking about children and exploitation, language matters. It can be the difference between a child being properly safeguarded or put at further risk of exploitation. The #CSETaskforce commissioned The Children's Society and NAPAC - the National Association for People Abused in Childhood to develop refreshed guidance in relation to the use of appropriate language which has been published today. This will help influence the direct practice of professionals as well as the wider culture surrounding the safeguarding of children Download the guide here >> https://lnkd.in/eE2-vwhV VKPP - Vulnerability Knowledge & Practice Programme The Hydrant Programme

A chance here for victims / survivors to share their views on an important piece of policy - see full details below:
Victim/survivors of child sexual abuse are being encouraged to share their views on the Victim Code of Practice (VCOP) and Services. Following on from preliminary work in Spring 2024, the IICSA Changemakers are now building upon the reflections that victim/survivors shared as being important and have launched two anonymous surveys. The surveys can be accessed here: VCOP - https://lnkd.in/eYrK2UXS Services - https://lnkd.in/exhnTYG7 Both surveys will be open until Friday 22nd November. - Participants do not need to disclose any specific details about abuse. - It is for any adult (18 years old+) survivor of child sexual abuse. - You DO NOT need to have reported to the police or gone through the criminal justice system to respond. - Surveys do not need to be completed in one sitting - participants can save their progress and come back to it depending on how they're feeling.

If you’d like to join this important event, hosted by The Survivors Trust, please see joining details below 👇
Join the Fight to end Child Sexual Abuse with the Act on IICSA Campaign group’s webinar on the Child Protection Authority with Experts and Survivors. We are excited to invite you to an important webinar hosted by Act on IICSA, featuring Prof. Alexis Jay CBE, David Greenwood, John O'Brien CBE and the Act on IICSA steering group. Together, we will discuss the merits and challenges of establishing a Child Protection Authority (CPA), as recommended in IICSA's final report two years ago. This is your chance to ask questions about the establishment of a CPA, as well as learn more about how, if implemented correctly, a CPA can prevent child abuse and support professionals across education, health and criminal justice working with all those impacted by sexual violence. Don’t miss the launch of our campaign for a CPA—register today! https://lnkd.in/ehESXXyS #ActOnIICSA

We support the excellent campaign launched by the CSE Taskforce this week. ‘When You Are Ready’ features the voices of victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation who have shared their lived experience to help others find hope and encourage them to seek support, when they are ready. Go to https://lnkd.in/eSwgtzS9 to watch a film, sharing these voices. The CSE Taskforce is made up of the National Police Chiefs' Council, The Hydrant Programme, VKPP - Vulnerability Knowledge & Practice Programme and Tackling Organised Exploitation Programme (TOEX). #WhenYouAreReady
