Big News: Amazing to see the UK's lowest carbon resurfacing on the A64 - using ACLA® ACLA®, our carbon-negative aggregate, played a key role in this ground-breaking project with National Highways and Tarmac. By utilising ACLA® and other innovative solutions, they achieved a 75% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional methods. 🏆  Reflecting on a year of groundbreaking achievements at LCM!  🏆 📈  This year, our team have made big strides in scaling the production of our innovative products, advancing our mission to decarbonise construction. ⭐  Our 2024 highlights include: 🔵  ACLA®  was deployed in numerous major road projects across the UK, including in the M11 and A64! 🛣️ This involved partnerships with forward-thinking local authorities and industry leaders such as Tarmac, MGL Group, National Highways, Skanska, Breedon Group plc, Milestone Infrastructure, Kenson Highways, Lane Rentals, Durham County Council, London Borough of Redbridge, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Central Bedfordshire Council and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. 📊 Incorporating ACLA® into asphalt mixes removed a total of 100,000kg CO2e across our projects this year. The equivalent of the av. UK petrol car driving almost 610,000 km. ✅  ACLA®’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) was released, validating our carbon claims. 🔵  Prince William visited LCM HQ! 🤝  It was an honour to welcome Prince William, Founder and President of The Earthshot Prize, to our headquarters. 💶  We closed a £3 million Growth Acceleration Funding round led by Ada Ventures, with additional participation from Green Angel Ventures, Northstar Ventures UK, and skill-based support from Deloitte. 💬 Attending and speaking at high-profile events. From #ClimateWeekNYC and London Climate Action Week to Traffex, Bloomberg Live Sustainable Business Summit, The Earthshot Prize 2024 final and Futurebuild, we’ve been at the heart of conversations shaping the future of construction. We are thrilled to hear that the Invest in Women Taskforce has secured over £250 million in funding for female-founded businesses. Co-chaired by Debbie Wosskow, OBE and Hannah Bernard OBE, the Taskforce is on a mission to create a world-leading investment ecosystem for female entrepreneurs in the UK. Major UK players, including Barclays, M&G plc, British Business Bank, Morgan Stanley, Visa Foundation, BGF and Aviva have pledged their support, either directly or through the dedicated ‘Women backing Women’ fund. With backing from Chancellor Rachel Reeves and The Department for Business and Trade, this bold initiative aims to drastically reshape the investment landscape. This year, MGL Group, in partnership with Durham County Council and Low Carbon Materials (LCM), successfully delivered County Durham's first-ever net zero asphalt scheme. This groundbreaking project involved resurfacing Elvet Hill Road in Durham using asphalt incorporating carbon-negative aggregate and recycled materials. This innovative approach reduces carbon emissions and promotes a circular economy. Since then, we have worked on several other schemes across the County. This represents a significant step towards decarbonising the built environment and achieving net zero targets. It demonstrates the potential of collaboration to drive innovation and sustainability in road construction. 🆕 New case study: ACLA® used to decarbonise another project, this time in East Riding. 🛣️ We supported East Riding of Yorkshire Council to deliver a lower-carbon road resurfacing project on Edinburgh Street in Goole. 🌟 The project used ACLA®, our carbon-negative aggregate that decarbonises asphalt. ACLA was used in an asphalt mix supplied by Tarmac, with Lane Rental handling the contracting work. ✅ Incorporating ACLA® into the mix removed 6,384kg of CO2e from the atmosphere and locked it away in the resulting road 🚙 That is equivalent to the emissions of an average UK petrol car driving 38,926km. 🌎 We’re excited to continue partnering with industry innovators working towards achieving net-zero construction. 💬 Interested in reducing the carbon footprint of your next project? ✳️  New case study: New road laid using ACLA® at Front Street, Sunniside 🚧  We partnered with Durham County Council and MGL Group to decarbonise their road resurfacing works using ACLA®, our carbon-negative solution for asphalt. ⬇️  Key project statistics: ✅  Using ACLA® in the asphalt mix permanently removed 23,142kg CO2e from the atmosphere. 🚗  That’s a carbon-saving equivalent to driving 141,110 km in a typical petrol car! 👤  In the words of Dave Elliot, Joint Chief Executive of MGL Group: “MGL Group's continued partnership with Low Carbon Materials and Durham County Council reinforces our shared commitment to a sustainable future. Here’s what she had to say…  🤝 Viola highlighted how the key aspect of scaling climate innovation is collaboration. 🌐 This involves all stakeholders coming together, from policymakers and corporations to financial institutions and innovators. 🚧 She emphasised that we need to create an open dialogue to understand the challenges and opportunities facing the construction sector. 🏗️ This will allow us to test new climate innovations in real-life settings and scale them quickly to accelerate decarbonisation. For example, ACLA®, our groundbreaking solution to addressing emissions from asphalt, used on over 95% of UK roads. 💪 ACLA® is a drop-in carbon negative aggregate which transforms the carbon footprint of asphalt.
