About us

Orbit is one of the UK’s foremost housing groups, managing a portfolio of quality, safe and affordable homes for over 100,000 customers. Socially driven and commercially minded, we are a not-for-profit committed to creating a better society, building affordable homes and communities, and to do so in more socially responsible and sustainable ways. For over 50 years we’ve been a force for positive change. We have a growing property portfolio of over 46,500 affordable and social rent homes across Midlands, East and South of England. We support over 100,000 customers in differing stages of life, from those seeking their first home to customers looking for enhanced supported living and are one of the UK’s largest developers of affordable housing, building over 5,300 new homes by 2025. Our Better Days programme offers support to help our customers maintain their tenancies, develop the skills to get back into work, access grants, apply for the benefits that they’re eligible for, and manage personal finances. As part of Better Days, we run Breathing Space, a mental health support service commissioned with Mind and Aspire4u, to support customers who are experiencing difficulties with mental health issues. This service aims to prevent problems occurring or worsening, tackling the causes rather than dealing with the consequences, with the ultimate goal of enabling our customers to be in control of their lives. We are a values-led organisation and are proud of our diverse, open, and inclusive culture where all perspectives are valued. We have an active People agenda and we’re always working hard to make Orbit the best place to work for our 1,200 employees.

  • “We welcome today’s announcement that the Government is investing an additional £300 million to increase the delivery of much-needed, new affordable and social homes via the Affordable Homes Programme. Whilst this is another encouraging sign from the Government, the collective task ahead to deliver 1.5 million homes remains a challenging one. Our eyes are now on the Spending Review, where we hope to see continued government investment for new affordable homes and regeneration, at a level that will enable the sector to move at scale and pace to meet the UK’s housebuilding ambitions.” Phil Andrew, Group Chief Executive, Orbit

  • We’re proud to have recently installed three lifesaving defibrillators at our local community hubs in Norfolk, Suffolk, and Northamptonshire. Thanks to the support from Department of Health and Social Care's Community Automated External Defibrillators Fund, we secured 50% of the necessary funding and matched it to cover the total costs. The defibrillators have been installed on the outside of Orbit’s Community Hubs and registered on The Circuit, the UK’s national defibrillator network. This ensures the defibrillators are accessible to the public and the ambulance service can easily direct people to them in an emergency. Last week alongside partners such as Homes England, we attended the NHBC Affordable Housing Innovators in conjunction with the British Property Federation. Together we all want to help build the affordable homes our country needs, which is why we’re building 1,000 new homes in 2025 and over 5,000 over the coming years. We’re ready to play our part to solve the national housing crisis, and with greater innovation and government support, we could build even more. Phil Andrew #AffordableHousing #HousingAssociations

  • We have now officially opened our new community hub in Norwich! Located at St Anne’s Quarter, this hub provides access to free face-to-face support on a range of issues such as managing finances, health and wellbeing, and employability as part of our Better Days programme. It also provides space for community events, helping our customers build friendships and connect with their neighbours. The hub was opened by The Lord Mayor Councillor Vivien Thomas and her Consort who unveiled a plaque at a celebration event for the community. This is the first of three new hubs we’ll be opening over the coming months as part of our recently launched Everyday Excellence plan designed to enhance our customer experience and help realise our 2030 ambition to deliver amongst the best customer service of any housing association in the country. • Creating greener spaces for our communities 🌱 We were delighted to recently welcome Councillor Jennifer Fradgley, Chair of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, to join our team of colleague volunteers in planting 900 hedgerow whips, 900 flower bulbs, 600m2 of wildflower meadow, 200m2 of naturalised grassland and five fruit trees at our Wattons Lodge Independent Living scheme, to provide our customers there with better access to a more biodiverse and high-quality outdoor space. The planting day is just one of the ways in which we are working towards our commitment to ensure that 30% of our outdoor spaces enable nature’s recovery by 2030, as part of our Biodiversity Approach and aligned with The Wildlife Trusts’ ‘30 by 30’ campaign.
