As the holidays begin, we are getting ready to switch gears for a couple of weeks. This is an invitation to find our glimmers of joy, connection to nature and care for ourselves and others. Whether we celebrate the festivities or not, whether our workload continues or shifts, the winter period offers natural moments to slow down and rest. The small part-time paid team at Parents For Future UK and wonderful volunteers across our working groups will be taking a break until 6 January 2025. We will be back raring and ready to go in January, to create a safer, fairer 2025 for all children. #ForFuturesSake

Volunteers truly are the backbone of Parents For Future UK. We are starting a series of interviews with our volunteers - all from different walks of life - to share the breadth of ways parents and carers can participate in our work. Elena Cimelli, a member of the social media working group at PFF, speaks about how she moved from joining a welcome call, to becoming a regular volunteer in the organisation. There is a place for all in our movement. You can show up with your skills, passions and availability in a way that works for you, without any pressure. Inspired by Elena's story? Please do join a welcome call or watch our 2 minute video. We can't wait to meet you. https://lnkd.in/euFk8KsT

What is carbon capture and how does it fit into the other climate solutions we should be pushing for? While there may be a place for carbon capture, as yet there simply isn’t evidence to support it as a viable climate solution. We know categorically that: - ending new fossil fuels, - investing in renewables and - changing our food systems will have a huge impact. And yet these areas are not receiving the level of investment that carbon capture is. We also know that fossil fuel companies want to continue to extract oil. Just seven out of 87 offshore oil and gas companies will invest anything in renewable energy by 2030. Investment in carbon capture, over the proven solutions simply supports their mandate to keep drilling, at the expense of the future of all kids. Parents For Future UK are working on ways to support the push for moving away from fossil fuels in 2025. If you would like to be the first to hear what our plans are, register your interest on our website (link: https://lnkd.in/gvmf7_qX) #CarbonCapture #ClimateCrisis #ParentsForFuture #MoveAwayFromFossilFuels #ForFuturesSake

We're very pleased to be joining The Climate Coalition. Working with other committed organisations, to join our strengths and expand our ideas, is a positive and important step for us as we continue to grow the work that we are doing.
We’re thrilled to welcome two new coalition members, each bringing unique strengths and commitment to building a healthier, fairer future for all. Parents For Future UK: as the UK's largest parent climate movement, Parents For Future UK has a network of over 35,000 supporters. The organisation builds resilient, inclusive communities - supporting parents to campaign locally and nationally for a safer, thriving environment for today’s children, and to safeguard a stable climate for their futures. Scottish Communities Climate Action Network (SCCAN)-action-network: Working across Scotland, SCCAN supports community-led action to tackle the climate and nature emergency and work for a just, thriving and resilient Scotland. We can’t wait to work alongside these dedicated partners, uniting our strengths to mobilise action, raise awareness, and drive policy change. Welcome, Parents For Future and SCCAN – together, we’re making a difference! 💪🌍

We're reflecting on these powerful words from Eban Goldstein from the Centre for Environmental Policy. As a group we work to mobilise the parent voice and call for the solutions we so desperately need. Many PFF members are completely new to climate work, and find their feet through the community we are building. They find their voice and build confidence to call for climate solutions by drawing on the support and training we offer. It's a time of courage, imagination, and acting together. Tomorrow is too late to tackle the climate crisis. We're here to do it with parents and carers, today.

ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN LAUNCH: Sorry our kids’ playgrounds and schools are flooded. Sorry our homes, businesses and transport are under water. Sorry our air is not safe to breathe. We are famous for saying sorry in the UK, but failing to halt the climate crisis is one apology our children should never have to hear. As Brits, we say sorry every day for little things—but what about the big things? Join us in saying “enough” to the floods, and pollution affecting our communities, that will affect our kids futures, too. Over 85% of UK parents worry about climate change affecting their children. We are not alone. Join us in calling for bold action and a brighter future. Because sorry is easy until it isn’t. Find out how you can help https://lnkd.in/eUHba42v We are infinitely grateful to have worked with the team from Media Bounty Potential Energy Coalition and Global Optimism on this campaign. #ProtectOurKidsFuture #MoveAwayFromFossilFuels

With Gabrielle's extensive experience—speaking globally, working with leaders and even appearing on the BBC—this session promises to be both enlightening and approachable. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Brought to you by Mothers CAN (Mothers' Climate Action Network) and Parents For Future UK, this is an event you won't want to miss. https://lnkd.in/ePG4S6X8

COP stands for Conference Of the Parties. Those parties are the 197 countries who signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Each year the parties meet to discuss and agree plans on how to mitigate (slow down) and adapt to the climate crisis. This year the conference met in Baku, Azerbaijan. What’s been happening? UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that the UK has committed to an 81% cut to emissions by 2035. And in his speech, he linked national, economic and global security to climate security. This commitment, if kept to, will be critical to protecting all kids’ futures. COP29 Reducing Methane from Organic Waste Declaration was launched. 30+ countries representing almost 50% of the global methane emissions from organic waste have endorsed the declaration, including the US, UK, Nigeria, Brazil, Japan, Russia and Mexico. The UN Secretary General António Guterres said that 2024 has been “a masterclass in human destruction”, highlighting record temperatures, hurricanes, insufferable heat, floods, droughts and crop failures, all “supercharged by human-made climate change.” New data indicates that fossil fuel emissions will rise by 0.8% in 2024. Emissions must FALL by 43% by 2030 to keep to 1.5C warming. At least 1,773 coal, oil, and gas lobbyists, and 204 industrial agriculture lobbyists were granted access to the COP 29 climate talks. Multiple countries boycotted or pulled out of the conference due to internal issues, political disagreements or considering it an ineffective use of time. Reading all of this and wondering how you can participate in the change we all desperately need? Watch our 2 minute welcome video or join a welcome call. Link https://lnkd.in/e6r2cftM

A new article published in Nature Magazine shows the parent-led climate movement facilitates inclusion and community-building through its focus on care and caring relationships. “...the parent-led movement holds promise to inspire a more inclusive approach to climate action, one that not only addresses the immediate aspects of climate change for those who are living today, but also promotes the need to safeguard and act upon the preservation of a sustainable and caring future”.* We know that our love for future generations is shown by research to be “the most universal message”** when it comes to motivating people to support climate action. We were pleased to see recognition of the important bridging role Parents For Future is playing in the climate movement. The researcher acknowledges that “the participation of Parents for Future to the global climate strikes of 2019 marked a pivotal moment…..and brought an intergenerational perspective to the movement”. We are in very good company, with organisations such as Our Kids' Climate, Moms Clean Air Force, and Mothers Out Front also cited in the article. While the article is biased towards organisations in the Global North, we know well that the parent voice on climate is worldwide. There are many Parents For Future groups and other parent-led climate work all over the world. This article bolsters what we at PFF already know; the parent voice is needed more than ever in the climate space. We’ll be continuing our work to help more and more parents build confidence to talk about it and effect change. *https://lnkd.in/eBkaEBQQ **https://lnkd.in/e234sz8X.
