It was World AIDS Day yesterday – a global movement which unites people in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Thanks to HouseProud North and One Manchester for producing this short film below to raise awareness of how AIDS affects people worldwide. We're proud to join with their members and other housing organisations to share this film to help educate and continue to break the stigma. World Aids Day is a time to remember those that have been lost, join in solidarity with people living with HIV today, and transform the future for everyone by ending HIV transmissions. Giving back to the community Yesterday, our team joined forces with the Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble Borough Council, RSM UK, and Tesco to support Leyland Foodbank. Together, they asked shoppers to donate essential items to help those in need, as we head into the festive season. Our acting Director of Housing Operations, Tola, shared why our colleagues volunteered to help: “Progress Housing Group supports and encourages us to volunteer throughout the year as part of our social value and employer-led volunteering offers. “We know that many of our tenants use Leyland Foodbank, and we wanted to come along to support them and give something back to the local community.” Thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered their time. Your kindness and generosity make a real difference❤️. #Community #GivingBack #SocialImpact #LeylandFoodbank

Today is #WhiteRibbonDay, a day dedicated to ending violence against women and girls. White Ribbon Day and the '16 Days of Action', which run after it, are an opportunity to come together and stand against domestic abuse by raising awareness and being part of the solution. #Itstartswithmen is the leading message for this year's White Ribbon campaign, recognising that Whilst not all men commit violence against women, all men do have a role in helping to end it. The campaign pledge and information have been added to Progress Housing Group’s work vans to help spread the message and the support available. With our charity partner, Key Unlocking Futures we own and manage South Ribble and Chorley women's refuges. Key also runs programmes to support domestic abuse victims, healthy relationship sessions in schools and a 24-hour helpline. If you can, wear a white ribbon and show your support. Together we can make our communities safer for everyone. Professional learning is vital when it comes to keeping our tenants safe. That is why we offer our colleagues a variety of training courses including sessions with the leading safeguarding charity, Ann Craft Trust and a tailored course to help them understand their safeguarding role. Our Healthy Homes Property Services Co-ordinator Jordan shared what safeguarding means to him and his role: “Safeguarding means that we protect our service users from any form of neglect, harm, or poverty, and also identify where tenants may need help with their mental health. ”To me, professional curiosity means actually understanding an issue that is happening with an individual or household to ensure that it is dealt with correctly, and by not making assumptions.” Tailored courses, help our colleagues understand their safeguarding role and responsibility as well as the duty of care required for children, young people, and adults. Our heating and plumbing apprentice Alicia recently featured in Housing Today as part of their Frontline Stories series - https://loom.ly/MCE6q1E Alicia will soon be starting the fourth year of her apprenticeship with us and is leading the way for more young women to take up trade apprenticeships. "The apprenticeship is completely different to anything I've been used to so far - in a good way! It is a hands-on job, but I like pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I feel like I'm doing something useful and no day has been the same. - Alicia, 21. At Progress Housing Group, we truly believe in the power of apprenticeships to inspire and give people the opportunity to build the best life for themselves. You can hear more from Alicia on her apprenticeship journey in our video - https://loom.ly/As9DVAQ #apprenticeships #ukhousing #careers #opportunity
