We’re so excited to share that Rising community members, Carlo Hornilla and Josephine Gyasi, have joined Travelling Light Theatre’s board through the 24/25 round of Rising’s OnBoard programme! OnBoard is a 12 month programme that supports organisations to recruit, train and support young people on their boards. Now in it's 6th year of running, OnBoard was set up as a direct challenge to stagnant and unrepresentative leadership in the sector. We believe that young people are leaders and we can’t wait to see all that Josie and Carlo do! We're really excited to be working with @Travelling Light in this way, grateful that they also believe in the power of young people in strategic positions in the sector. Not just cultural consumers or producers but also decision-makers! We love to see it! 🥳

We are a community of young creatives, mobilising others for radical social, political and cultural change.
About us
Rising Arts Agency is a space where brilliant young artists and forward-thinking organisations can connect, imagine and inspire. We are a genuinely youth-led social enterprise based in Bristol. We support the city’s underrepresented young people (18-30) to fulfil their creative ambitions and mobilise to affect radical social change through the arts. We are anti-establishment, fiercely independent and co-created with and for young people. Across our 2 Co-Directors, 3 Non-Executive Directors, 4 Board Members and 3 team members we are 85% 30 and under, 46% people of colour (POC), 77% women and 23% LGBTQI+. We are a small team of creative thinkers making big things happen, with and for our community of 100+ underrepresented creatives who are embedded in strategic decision making at every level of our work. Through mentoring, professional development, and leadership opportunities, we support them to take up space in the sector. As our unique ways of working, thinking and facilitating become more recognised, we work both locally and nationally. We advocate for sector and cultural change through activist campaigns, research, consultation, care and our creative agency services. 🔥🔥

"It’s still a relentless time for young people. The challenges that we have to navigate feel all-encompassing and insidiously interconnected. We’re seeing more of our community being priced-out of the city, community members struggling to get to our meet-ups and events due to unreliable and expensive public transport, and becoming more reliant on already over-subscribed health and mental health services. It’s tough. Now that we are turning our attention to the upcoming [leadership] transition [where Jess and I will be stepping down as Co-Directors], we want to dedicate more time to nurturing the leadership skills within the community whilst growing our agency work to ensure we can create even more paid opportunities for them. We’re hoping to see more young people stepping up as board members, to hold us accountable and hopefully, younger people excited to step into the Co-Directorship in 2026. In our last community survey, 51% of our community said they would be interested in potentially stepping up in this way or were interested to find out more - which is amazing. Bringing a new Community Producer into the team will be part of shaping that and deepening our engagement work across the city so that more young people feel truly empowered to lead." Our Co-Director, Euella, reflects on the fact that, 8 years on, we're still making space for young leaders - read more about why we're excited to be recruiting right now. #youngpeople #werehiring #youngleaders

We've been reflecting on the impact of our OnBoard programme. An idea that grew out of @kaminawalton's work around young people and governance has turned into a movement of organisations who have transformed their governance through young leaders. We started OnBoard in 2018 in response to the lack of young people's voices at a strategic level in the creative and cultural sector. Since then, we've been able to support 39 young people on to the boards of cultural organisations (and counting!). OnBoard really was ahead of its time, and we're proud of it's impact. Don't believe us? Check out this short video, shot and edited by @Olumide Osinoiki. We're excited to be welcoming new organisations on to the next cohort of the programme, so if you're currently recruiting or will be in the near future, please get in touch. sid@rising.org.uk

NO CLIMATE JUSTICE WITHOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE! 💥🌱 Last week, we brought together 10 members of Rising's community over food, hot drinks and lot's of post-it notes to explore how the climate crisis is impacting them and what their hopes are for the future. We know that we have a unique perspective; our community come from all over the city, with a range of intersecting lived experiences that are still underrepresented in the creative industries and society at large. We wanna hear what they have to say and put together our very own Community Climate Action Plan that serves young people who fall through the cracks - particular in housing, transport, jobs / skills and co-create solutions that challenge that status quo. Thank you to Future Leap for letting us use their space, and to Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership for supporting us on this journey. WATCH THIS SPACE!

This is an exciting time for Rising! 🎉🎉 We’re looking for a Community Producer to join the core team to actively support, manage and grow our community of young creatives. We’re ALSO looking for new board members to hold us accountable and advocate for our work. Sounds like you or someone you know? Well keep reading and please share this post! This is an exciting time for us, and we're feeling energised to grow our small, yet mighty team to be able to continue to nurturing our awesome community. As Jess and Euella head into the final half of their Co-Directorship, we're also looking for new board members to help steer the direction of the agency in the lead up to and beyond our next leadership transition. For more information on what we're looking for in both of these roles, and details on how to apply, head to https://lnkd.in/eHqeHBt6
