Breaking Barriers, Building Inclusion: A Successful DuoDay at the University of Edinburgh. 📣 Yesterday, my colleagues and I hosted a DuoDay at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with ‘Into Work’ as part of the Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE). This annual event is all about breaking down barriers and promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace. It was an absolute pleasure to meet our mentees, each bringing unique perspectives and talents. The day focused on breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes about disabled people in the workplace - something that is very important to me. The College of Science and Engineering and the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine teamed up for the day, and it was filled with inspiring talks from professionals in various fields throughout the University, including Research Development, IT, Planning and Insight, Social Responsibility, and Executive Support - plus we topped it all off with an exciting tour of the Robotarium at the Bayes Centre, and met NASA’s Valkyrie robot, developed in partnership with the University of Edinburgh. Great day at Enevate Homes in Wishaw as part of Scottish Union of Supported Employment #DuoDay 2024. Three young people had the amazing opportunity to get hands on and learn different skills such as joinery, plumbing, technical drawing and electrical work and also learn about what it could be like working within modular construction! 🦺🚧 #DuoDay2024

#DuoDay24 was a huge success 🥳 We've had Keir job shadowing Three UK, Michael at The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Nico at St James Quarter, Aidan at Specsavers and Ellie at Forth 1. #DuoDay brings together disabled people, supported employment organisations and local employers to promote equal #employment opportunities across Europe. Today, Passion4Social is proud to support DuoDay 2024! DuoDay is a Europe-wide event, hosted in Scotland by Scottish Union of Supported Employment, aimed at challenging stereotypes about disabled people in the workforce and highlighting their valuable contributions to both the workplace and the broader economy. As part of the event, we are welcoming two temporary recruits to the team for the day. They will be shadowing Passion4Social’s Outreach coordinator Karalyn Becker and web developer Roberto De Marco We are only too delighted to have this opportunity to share our experiences with them! Here’s hoping they come away from the day feeling more confident, re-energised, and above all, with some ideas about the kind of work opportunities they would like to pursue in the future. In a broader sense, this is also a fabulous platform where we can challenge misguided assumptions and demonstrate that, given the right support, people with disabilities can achieve everything in business that their non-disabled colleagues do. We envision a future where everyone’s potential is seen, supported and realised. Are you in?
