Following over two years of construction, our 101MW Yellow Wind Farm located in Rhode County Offaly generated electricity for the first time. ⚡ It's been a huge team effort to get this point in the project, thanks to Suir Engineering, Farrans Construction, Nordex Group, EirGrid Group and Port of Galway. 👏 Testing of all 29 Nordex Group N117/3600 wind turbines will now take place over the coming months ahead of reaching full power and entering commercial operations which is expected early 2025. 📆 Read more about how Yellow River Wind Farm will help contribute to Ireland’s 2030 renewable energy targets via the link below. 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eUdDTX6D
About us
SSE Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, headquartered in the UK and Ireland, with a growing presence internationally. Part of the FTSE-listed SSE plc, we're taking action as part of SSE's Net Zero Acceleration Programme (NZAP) to increase our installed renewable energy capacity to 9GW by 2027, and over 16GW by 2032. We have an operational portfolio of around 4.5GW of installed onshore wind, offshore wind and hydro generation capacity, with a secured future project pipeline of almost 15GW in development. We're also pursuing a further pipeline of over 13GW of additional prospective sites under development. Our operational portfolio comprises nearly 2GW of onshore wind capacity, more than 1GW of offshore wind capacity, and almost 1.5GW of flexible hydro power and pumped storage capacity. These generation assets produce around 10TWh of renewable power each year. We know offshore wind will be the backbone of a net zero power system so we are building the world's largest offshore wind farm, the 3.6GW Dogger Bank project in the North Sea and, in October 2023, we completed the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, the 1.1GW Seagreen project off the Scottish coast. We're a team of around 1,800 renewable energy professionals based across the UK and Ireland, Continental Europe, and Japan, all committed to delivering the green energy the world needs now and in the future. We've honed our skills through over 15 years of delivering world-leading projects with expertise in project design and optimisation, consenting and stakeholder engagement, financing, procurement, construction, and operations.

2024 was a busy year for us as we continue to champion the clean, secure and homegrown energy needed to support a net zero future. Huge milestones were achieved – we progressed flagship projects and crossed the finish line on two new onshore wind farms; we charged ahead with new battery projects; we completed significant redevelopments to some of our existing assets; and we continued our international expansion beyond our core market focus of the UK and Ireland. Some of our highlights include: 🌊 First full year of operations at Seagreen, Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm 🌊 🍃 ❄️ Outstanding asset management by our teams through adverse and stormy weather conditions ⚡ Full commercial operations at Viking Wind Farm in Shetland 🚧 Construction progress continued at the 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm ⛰️ £100 million exploratory works at Coire Glas were completed 💧 Tummel Bridge Power Station reopened following £50 million refurb programme 🔋 Our first Battery Energy Storage System project at Salisbury went live ⚡ First power reached at Yellow River Wind Farm in County Offaly 🇫🇷 First power achieved at Chaintrix Wind Farm, our first onshore wind farm outside the UK and Ireland, and first from our Southern Europe Portfolio 🇳🇱 Securing 2GW of offshore wind seabed in the Netherlands with our IJmuiden Ver Alpha project 👏 FID to proceed with 208MW Strathy South onshore wind farm in the Scottish Highlands 🌊 Submitting consent applications for our Arklow Bank, Ossian and North Falls offshore projects 🤝 £10.3 million invested in communities across Great Britain and Ireland With the addition this year of new operational assets to our portfolio, we now have 5GW of installed renewable capacity and we’re committed to delivering up to 9GW by 2027 as part of SSE plc’s £20bn clean energy NZAP Plus plan. We won't be stopping anytime soon. Thanks to all our SSE team and colleagues and to our partners, contractors and sub-contractors for their contributions throughout 2024. 2025 is shaping up to be just as busy! (We’ve wrapped-up 2024 in under a minute, watch the video below) 👇

We have taken a final investment decision to proceed with the construction of our 208MW Strathy South onshore wind farm in the Scottish Highlands. Development of Strathy South Wind Farm, which is located in north-east Sutherland, has been ongoing for over a decade and once completed, it will be capable of powering around 200,000 homes annually with renewable energy. Vestas will supply, install and commission the 35 V162-6.2 MW turbines for the project. Main construction works will begin in spring 2025, with commercial operations expected in late 2027. We’re celebrating first power being generated from our 101MW Yellow River Wind Farm located in Rhode, County Offlay. 🇮🇪 Working alongside system operator EirGrid Group, high voltage electrical engineering contractor Suir Engineering and civils contractor Farrans Construction, teams successfully connected and energised the project’s 29 Nordex Group N117/3600 wind turbines and associated Knockdrin 110kV substation to the existing Derryiron 110kV Transmission Station nearby. ⚡ With first power now achieved, testing of turbines will take place over the coming months ahead of reaching full power and entering commercial operations, expected in early 2025. 📆 The wind farm will help contribute to Ireland’s 2030 renewable energy targets while delivering homegrown and secure clean power for Irish energy consumers. 🏡 Read more about the landmark milestone below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUdDTX6D

We recently completed construction at Chaintrix-Bierges and Vélye Wind Farm, our first onshore wind farm outside of the UK and Ireland and the first from our Southern Europe portfolio. 🌍 The 28MW Chaintrix-Bierges wind farm is located between Chaintrix-Bierges and Vélye in the Marne département and comprises eight Siemens Gamesa SG 3.4-132 wind turbines, each capable of producing 3.4MW of renewable energy output. ⚡ With all turbines now installed and first power achieved, turbine commissioning and testing will continue ahead of commercial operations at the site which is expected in early 2025. 📆 Thanks to Siemens Gamesa and our subcontractors for their efforts during the construction phase. The UK Government has published a new Clean Power Action Plan to protect households and boost the economic growth of clean energy. The plan is welcomed, especially as it aims to unlock £40billion of investment a year in clean power. But we need to act now. To deliver a cleaner, more secure power system for Britain we urgently need to get building clean energy infrastructure on an unprecedented scale. This will require a bolder and more decisive approach from the Government and from regulatory bodies to remove the barriers to development and to back the technologies we need. Today’s plan provides important further clarity on how this will be done, and the pace at which it has been developed is particularly welcome. We need this urgency to continue. With £40bn of capital investment needed per year, the key thing now is to help derisk that investment in order to minimise costs. We look forward to seeing further clarity over the coming months on market design in particular, where we continue to urge government to rule out zonal pricing as soon as possible to remove the associated risks and sharpen the focus on what really counts – delivering mission-critical infrastructure, boosting energy security and driving economic growth. 🔗 To read SSE plc's full response head to the link in the comments below 👇 Department for Energy Security and Net Zero #CleanPowerActionPlan

Dogger Bank Wind Farm has signed a vessel reservation agreement with Seaway7, part of the Subsea7 Group, to charter a second turbine installation vessel to support the ongoing delivery of the offshore wind farm off the coast of England 🚢 Starting in 2026, the Seaway Ventus jack-up installation vessel is expected to commence turbine transport and installation work of GE Vernova Haliade-X offshore wind turbines at the Dogger Bank site. When fully complete in 2027, Dogger Bank will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm, capable of powering around 6 million UK homes annually 🏠 Read more 👇 https://bit.ly/4gxu14Q
