About us

St Paul's Cathedral is a vibrant church, a national treasure and a London icon. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the late 17th century, the Cathedral has been the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of London for over 1,400 years. Our building provides a space for reflection, discovery, learning and debate. Each year, we welcome nearly two million people through our doors, to worship, sightsee, and attend a lively programme of concerts, educational events and performing arts. Alongside dedicated clergy and staff, we are sustained by a community of volunteers, who ring our bells, lead our tours, maintain our collections and more. We provide comfort and commemoration through our national services, and stand as an enduring symbol of hope – for those of all faiths and none.

  • 🎹 Music news 🎹 Announcing our new Sub Organist, George Inscoe! In his new role, he will be part of the eminent group of organists who enrich our daily services, special services and events. • Last Sunday, we premiered a moving new anthem during a special Evensong service, marking 60 years since Dr Martin Luther King Jr delivered his inspiring sermon at St Paul’s Cathedral. Commissioned by Andrew Carwood, the anthem was composed by Roderick Williams with text by poet and playwright Rommi Smith. Drawing from King’s 1964 sermon, it honours his enduring message of justice, equality, and love. Rommi Smith reflects: "It is an honour to write in response to the work of Dr Martin Luther King. My words, set to Roderick Williams’ sonorous, spiritual score, have been heard within the same acoustics in which King originally preached." Roderick Williams adds: "There is a small, select group of people who have changed the course of history primarily through the power of their oration. Recordings of MLK's speeches and sermons profoundly move me, and I hope I have been able to capture in music the charisma and cadence of his speaking." The celebrations continue into 2025, with more talks and events planned. Learn how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/eU5esFrq 📷 Graham Lacdao

  • 'Unmaking Mary', 11th February, 6.30pm: We're excited to welcome the brilliant Chine McDonald back to St Paul's! For 2,000 years, the Virgin Mary has been depicted throughout art, literature and culture as symbolising the perfect mother: chaste, beautiful, meek, mild and white. These supposed virtues and symbols have penetrated not just Christianity but wider popular culture, and contributed to harmful views about motherhood and what it is to be a woman. Bestselling author and Director of thinktank, Theos, Chine will deconstruct the myth of perfect motherhood and reflect on its theological, social and personal impact, proposing a more authentic, grace-filled way forward.
