SurgeryAI.com has officially graduated from TheHill’s NHS Market Access Accelerator programme! 🎓 It’s been amazing to see the incredible progress everyone in the cohort has made over the past six months. We’ve gained invaluable insights into NHS procurement, sharpened our business strategy, and had the chance to pitch to a fantastic group of investors. Really, it should be Natalie collecting this diploma, as she’s been the driving force behind making sure we got the most out of every session. But startup life means juggling priorities, and she had other commitments this time around! A huge thank you to TheHill team, their partners, and our inspiring cohort. Your support and collaboration have been incredible, and I can’t wait to see where we all go from here! 🚀 #HealthTech #NHSInnovation #TheHillCohort2024

Yesterday, we had a fantastic opportunity to pitch SurgeryAI at Innovate UK's Business Growth Invest-Ability Pitch Panel, focusing on Digital Technologies and AI. Presenting to a panel of five investors gave us valuable insights and expert feedback—just what we needed as we gear up for our first round of fundraising. If you know strategic angels with experience in AI startups, selling into the NHS, or in the digital health space, especially those with expertise in healthcare operations or health data integration, please get in touch. We’d love to connect! A big thanks to IUK for the platform. Each conversation helps us refine our approach as we work toward impactful changes in surgical workflows. #SurgeryAI #HealthTech #PitchPanel #Fundraising

Feeling energised after Pit Stop Five of the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme 😍 a few key takeways for healthcare innovators: Ethics matter - the NHS is a small world, maintain your integrity. Embrace governance - it's there to help, not hinder. Build strong networks - show up for others, and they'll show up for you. Value everything - from your time to your shares. Seek diverse perspectives - don't surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Be ambitious, but accountable - track your progress and get things done. Listen to challengers - there's often wisdom in critique. Find your tribe - collaboration amplifies impact. A huge thank you to our incredible speakers Charlotte Williams, Steven Hess, and Hinnah Rafique for sharing their wisdom. Remember: "Don't let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big." #NHSInnovation #HealthTech #DrivingChange

Another outstanding #SocialMixer themed across #collaboration, organised by TheHill at the George Pickering Education Centre, John Radcliffe,The Hospital, #Oxford, showcased the #innovative projects thriving within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH). The insightful panel discussion with Tim Anstiss #founder, #medical director and #CEO of Virtual Health Labs and Pavana Pillai emphasised the power of collaboration. Tim introduced us to the Safespace project and shared his remarkable journey from conceptualising the #idea to discussing minimum viable products (#MVPs) and the invaluable #learnings acquired on the journey to #market. In his experience, the power of a shared #goal and #trust proved to be instrumental in the success of projects that directly #impact real-patient experiences. Pavana shared #insights into the role of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (#ERAS) in adherence to #treatment, especially in the context of cancer patients. The compelling success story of their #collaboration with Acuvate and Google in providing tech solutions to streamline the administration of efficient #treatment was inspiring. An example shared was a nurse-centric digital dashboard that analyses Electronic Patient Records (#EPR), provides trends, and identifies outliers, thereby empowering #nursing practices in their day-to-day work. The Q&A session was insightful, shedding light on the #challenges in #implementation and the varying needs of the same product across different geographies or fields. Key learnings: - Initially, follow the money. You need money to do the charity. - Diverse skill sets and willingness to wear different hats are the success drivers for #startups in general. - #Collaboration, #networking, and talking to different #stakeholders help to get the message across and open the door to better #opportunities. - There is no substitute for #passion, #perseverance and going the extra mile. - #Serendipity and #luck are success drivers. Being at the right place at the right time is important. - Written texts, including agreements, help to formulate a common understanding. - Anticipate unexpected set-backs :) The real challenge might not be in developing technology but rather in commercialising it - a perfect solution to the persistent problem might not be a viable solution :) I enjoyed listening to brilliant pitches of innovative ideas, including by Natalie C. from SurgeryAI.com, Dr Nikhit A. from Your Cue, and Karol Waluszewski from Healthnix. I made some exciting new connections, including Eileen Modral FRSA, Sonakshi Senthil, Jim Gabriel, Kelvin Tse, Tom Leach, Lucy Edwards and Alex Milodowski and met some old ones. I am looking forward to the following #socialmixer in September.
