Please join us in congratulating our very own Olaf Meier on his induction as a Keeper of the Quaich, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the Scotch whisky industry. Olaf received his honour at last night’s Keepers of the Quaich Banquet ceremony at Blair Castle in the Scottish Highlands.  Olaf is also a well-known face with Society members for his contribution to many virtual tastings, blogger tastings and Twitter tastings, and has helped to train many new SMWS ambassadors over the years.    The Society’s Whisky & Supply Chain Director, Kai Ivalo, said: “I am delighted that Olaf Meier, Brand Ambassador for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has been inducted as a Keeper of the Quaich. This recognition is a testament to his hard work and unwavering commitment for more than 20 years, including over 2,000 tastings and events worldwide. Last year we launched The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s 50th Anniversary Cask Club to give members a chance to own a piece of the Society’s future. We’re now building on its success with the addition of new casks from distilleries 10, 11 and 123. These casks launch today to add those available from distilleries 8 and 42.  If you have ever dreamed of maturing your own whisky, the time is now. Join us and share in the experience of selecting a cask of new-make spirit from five celebrated, and very different, Scottish distilleries. From Islay to the Highlands, from peat freaks to sherry buffs, there is truly something for everyone – but only while this small selection of casks remains.  If you’re curious about the process, after selection you’ll be able to monitor your cask’s maturation through to 2033. A big congratulations to The Scotch Malt Whisky Society who are celebrating outstanding results from this year’s New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC) with the title of 2024 Independent Bottler of the Year. In New York, the Society took home nine awards including four golds, two silvers along with three regional Scotch of the Year titles. Back in the UK, the Society took home seven awards from the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC - Club Oenologique), with one gold, three silver and three bronze medals. This brings the Society’s total number of awards to 338 since 2018. The Artisanal Spirits Company’s run of success this awards season continues with a haul of 13 medals in The Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters competition 2024. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society picked up eight medals, including a Master award, six Golds and a Silver, while J.G. Thomson won five awards, including a Master, three Golds and a Silver.

Good news this Wednesday! The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is celebrating the results of the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) awards. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society won a total of seven medals for its selection of sherry cask-matured whiskies. The awards included six gold and one silver medal, bringing the Society’s total number of awards to 314 awards since 2018. Fantastic news from New York as the striking sculptural design created by Stckmn for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s extremely rare release, The Only Drop, has won two significant awards. The distinctive creative concept for the Society’s contribution to the Distillers One of One auction at Sotheby’s in October 2023 has won Gold in the Design for Good and Silver in the Luxury Packaging categories at the Dieline Awards 2024 at LUXE PACK New York. The minimalist and environmentally friendly design for the exceptional 33-year-old sherry matured single malt Scotch whisky was led by STCKMN, the creative studio of multi-disciplinary designer Chris Wilson. The Only Drop’s design features a bespoke paper pulp sculpture infused with wood shavings from the original casks, reuniting the liquid once again with the vessel it matured in. The work was carried out in consultation with sustainable British paper innovators, James Cropper, and handcrafted for the auction by Matter Agency. Huge congratulations and thanks go to Chris, who said: “It’s fantastic to have this work for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society recognised on an international stage with not one, but two awards. With such an exceptional whisky, the design had to be special, the idea was to create a one-of-a-kind sculptural piece that would celebrate the craft found at the heart of the whisky making process. It was also important to show that luxury can be both simple and sustainable. It’s a real honour that the work has earned these prestigious awards.”
