🏆 DyeRecycle wins big at IChemE Awards https://hubs.ly/Q02-TDd50 The 2024 Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Global Awards acknowledged #OurImperial spinout's determination to reduce dye pollution and textile waste, presenting them with a prestigious award. DyeRecycle uses a unique formula, making use of green chemistry to give discarded fabric a new lease of life by salvaging their dyes – enabling the colour from an old garment to be extracted, revived and used to dye new fabrics, while also recovering the waste textiles. Congratulations to Dr Aida Rafat (CEO and Co-founder), Professor Jason Hallett (Co-founder), Jiaying Chen, Lamar Balubaid, Jehna Yang, Ziyin Chen, Antonio Overjero Prez, Irene Maffini and many others who have helped them succeed so far from Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial Enterprise Lab, Imperial College London and beyond.

2024 has been a huge year at HUID. There have been: 💷 multiple grants and awards won 🧪 a shiny new lab space 👩🔬 a new team member 👨🏫 amazing mentors 🌍 access to a world-class accelerator in climate tech 🤝 incredible continental collaborations and consortiums built 📦 product prototypes that have surpassed our expectations 📰 features on one of the biggest international news media stations 🧅 a first outing of our product at a conference 💅 a rebranding by an award winning design agency 🔊 opportunities to pitch to stalwart corporate clients. All these achievements are great, but the thing we're most proud of is that we've stayed true to what our vision is in the midst of obstacles: creating an exemplar, scalable system of circular design with the potential for huge social, environmental and cultural impact, all with the humble onion. We're so excited for 2025 and what's brewing, but first it is time to take some well earned rest. Team HUID is officially out of the office, but wanted to share an onion skin wrapped gift with you below (Literally - aside from the raffia, everything is made of our 100% onion skin cardstock Pyber, that we hope you'll be able to get your hands on properly in 2025...) 📣 The ClimateTech Policy Coalition has launched their third annual report, including fresh insights from the frontline of climate innovation, along with priority areas for Government support. 🗺️ Focused on innovating to combat climate change *and* the constraints on the Govt, the report is rounded off with a refreshed blueprint of steps that the Govt can take to unlock climate innovation, building on its political priorities. 👍 Most surveyed Climate founders (38) thought that Labour’s election victory was a good thing for their business - with only a handful (5) saying it was bad. 👎 Only 11 founders said that the first five months of the new Govt had been good for their business, with 14 saying that it had actually been negative for them. 📢 ClimateTech founders want the Government to focus on ensuring that innovation is built into its priorities, including GB Energy and the Industrial Strategy. 🎆 2025 gives us the opportunity to refocus on action. Fresh off supporting the launch of the new ClimateTech APPG earlier in the week, today we're launching our third annual ClimateTech Policy Coalition report. Spoiler alert, initially enthusiastic ClimateTech founders are a little underwhelmed with the first five months of the new Govt... In partnership with techUK, Tech Nation, Cleantech for UK, Tech Zero, and Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation, we release these reports annually, including fresh insights from the frontline of climate innovation, along with priority areas for Government support. This year we grounded the report in a series of roundtables with founders and investors, and a survey of 59 founders - the results are in: 👍 Most surveyed Climate founders (38) thought that Labour’s election victory was a good thing for their business - with only a handful (5) saying it was bad. ⚡ There was good recognition of the key policy priorities of the Govt, including GB Energy, the Warm Homes Plan, and there was significant support for the renewal of EIS and VCT investment incentives. 👎 Respondents were less positive about how things have gone since July 4th, however - only 11 founders said that the first five months of the new Govt had been good for their business, with 14 saying that it had actually been negative for them. 📢 To steady the ship, ClimateTech founders want the Government to focus on ensuring that innovation is built into its priorities, including GB Energy and the Industrial Strategy. 🗺️ As always, this isn't a moan - we are focused on the reality of innovating to combat climate change *and* the constraints on the Govt. We've rounded off the report with a refreshed blueprint of steps that the Govt can take to unlock climate innovation, building on its political priorities. 🎆 2025 gives us the opportunity to refocus on action. At the moment there is a general sense of consultation overload - but the hope is that there's action at the end of the questions, and this is what ClimateTech founders sorely need. 👇 Find the full report below, cheers to Sifted for the feature in yesterday's newsletter, and thank you as ever to all those who have engaged with us and the Coalition this year.
