Had such a great time at UX Camp Brighton at the weekend. It's been far too long since I last went. I saw some great talks on: - managing up - making better decisions - the lifecycle of digital content — and what the end of it looks like - trauma-informed research and design I also met lots of lovely people. The Brighton UX community is a fantastic place. Thank you to all the organisers!

Well UX Camp Brighton (UXCB) was firing on all cylinders again. It had it all... catching up with established friends, making new friends, watching inspiring talks, and finishing off with a bonkers quiz from Rob Pearson. I've given talks at UXCB for about 7 times now. Without doubt I can say I've learnt something new each time about my ability to craft, and deliver a coherent talk to an audience. I definitely have a system which has been refined over the years, from my own self-assessment, to the feedback that I've received from others. In fact my key takeaway from 2023 was to add some more depth and sources to my talk (thank you so much Chris How). That really feel it helped me focus on referencing experts in the field - adding more credence to the various topics I covered in the area of Decision Making. So if you've read this far and never thought of giving a presentation... I highly recommend giving it a go. It will help you to structure information, tell a story and become more confident... and all of those skills are invaluable in whatever job you do. Thanks again UXCB! ❤️ --------------- Special thanks: To Al Power for the new headshot, and the attendees who shared the other photos from my talk (additionally... if you want to see a very high-level view my sprawling Lucid Software mind-map that I used to draft out my presentation, skip to the last photo). #decisions #talks #presenting #conference #unconference #UX #thematrix

Big shout out to the team behind UX Camp Brighton for another amazing conference. UXCB very much has a cult classic status but continues to do a wonderful job at welcoming so many new people to the fold.  My talk was all about helping people 'manage up' better via their 1:1s. It was a mixture of things I've learned and things I wished I'd known 5-10 years ago. Attempting to summarise it into a pithy sentence, I think it's about knowing your need, knowing your audience, building momentum, relentlessly prioritising and some good old-fashioned admin. I also got to see some incredible talks on recovering from (project) emergencies, models for thinking about Design, spatial computing, conversational Design, creating a customer-centric culture and creating clarity. As ever we had great food, in a great venue with great people. The Design industry is very lucky that events like this are so useful and enjoyable. Hats off to the organisers and volunteers for all their hard work.
