When we launched the Investment Fund for Wales a year ago, our ambition was to help address the challenges of access to finance for smaller businesses in Wales. Our £10m milestone, and the one-year anniversary of the Fund, is a landmark moment allowing us to highlight the great work done to date, says our Director Mark Sterritt. The British Business Bank is the UK’s economic development bank. Established in 2014, our mission is to drive sustainable growth and prosperity across the UK, and to enable the transition to a net zero economy, by improving access to finance for smaller businesses. We work with more than 180 partners to deliver funding programmes that address gaps in the small business finance market. 📢 Our latest #NationsAndRegions24 Tracker reveals that external finance use in Wales was the highest and fastest growing among all UK Nations and regions in 2023 📈 🔎 Key findings 💳 In 2023, 53% of smaller businesses in Wales were using external finance, up from 37% in 2022 💸 67% of Welsh businesses are confident in their ability to secure finance despite economic uncertainty 🤝Wales bucked the national trend with an 8% decline in equity deals (the lowest in the UK), but a 23% increase in investment value – the only UK Nation or region to experience a rise.
