It does this by ensuring that education and training provision is responsive to the needs of the economy and that employers’ skills need are more quickly and effectively met. The Careers Hub also aim to improve social mobility and access to opportunity for young people when progressing from education to work. The Careers Hubs are a national initiative funded in London by the Careers & Enterprise Company, European Social Fund and Greater London Authority. They contain local secondary schools/colleges, SEND and Alternative Provision settings, Local Enterprise Partnership, businesses, Cornerstone Employers and careers providers. 💡 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 At Reed in Partnership, we are part of the system to support young people to transition out of compulsory education. We are delivering the Central London Careers Hub on behalf of the Greater London Authority and The Careers & Enterprise Company. Latest estimates reveal that almost a million (946,000) young people were not in education, employment or training (NEET) between July and September 2024. It has never been more crucial to deliver high quality careers activities and explore available opportunities with young people. Innovation and adaptability have been key to our successful delivery, we have found there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to careers education provision. Providing accessible resources, understanding and supporting diverse educational needs, and promoting inclusivity have all been integral parts of our approach to date. In this article Nii Thompson, Divisional Director, shares how we are working with young people, careers educators and employers to ensure that young people benefit from the best available support to make informed career and education choices in London. NEW: Industry Advisory Groups set to launch in 2025. The Central London Careers Hub is launching its first Industry Advisory Groups for the #retail and #construction sectors in 2025. The purpose will be to advise our work through deeper engagement with the sectors, as we seek to improve the support for secondary school staff in effectively promoting the industry to their students. By leveraging the expertise of the groups, paired with our unique data-led insights of current activity, student's career intentions and their career readiness, we intend to create lasting impact on the sectors engagement with its future workforce. We are inviting organisations to contribute to this group and shape the conversation around current and future engagement in Central London's schools and colleges. Themes for the discussions will range from current recruitment challenges, long-term skills forecasts, current good practice in education outreach, inclusion and disadvantage, further opportunities to collaborate and general advice for our service. By being a member of this group, you will be contributing to industry social value creation, playing a key role in ensuring that your sector is accessible to all. This group's work also directly supports the achievement of Employer Standards 6-9, recognising the role your organisation is playing in leading this conversation for the sector. Delivered in Central London by Reed in Partnership, insights and summaries of the Industry Advisory Group will be produced and shared with the national body for careers education in England (The Careers & Enterprise Company), the Greater London Authority and the national Careers Hub network - ensuring insight has a broader reach than the Central London region. If you would like further information and to register your interest, please contact connor.natella@reed.com.

The Central London Careers Hub is funded by The Careers & Enterprise Company in partnership with Greater London Authority to bridge the gap between industry and education in our capital city. Delivered in Central London by Reed in Partnership, we look forward to continuing this vital work in 2025.

The report gives recommendations as to how Skills England and the Department for Education can support small businesses to address the acute skills shortage facing skilled trades sectors. These include: 1️⃣ Establishing an intermediary system that strengthens the relationships between SME trades firms and training providers 2️⃣Increasing the apprenticeship incentive payment for under-19s to £3,000 3️⃣Launching a national campaign to promote awareness and positive perceptions of young apprentices. In this article, our Managing Director, Donna Murrell, explores some of the findings from the report and sets out how transforming the UK’s talent pipeline and breaking down barriers for school leavers could support us in our journey towards net zero.
