🌳 The Country Manager, FSC Vietnam, Dr. Que Anh Vu, has recently attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the establishment and development of Daklaoruco Rubber Company, a subsidiary of Dak Lak Rubber Investment Joint Stock Company (DRI). In the event, Daklaoruco also announced its FSC FM/CoC certification for wood and rubber latex products spanning an area of 6,845.36 hectares in Laos. FSC Vietnam participated in the presentation at the seminar "Rubber Industry 2025: Global Price Trends and Market Opportunities in the Context of EUDR" on December 12, 2024, at the White Palace Convention Center. This is the 2024 trade promotion serial activities together with the annual rubber dinner of the Vietnamese rubber industry. Presenting at the workshop, Dr. Que Anh Vu shared details about FSC Aligned for EUDR Certification, a solution that helps FSC's certificate holders meet the requirements of sustainability, legality, and due diligence while providing tools to store and process data in the journey to meet EUDR. The workshop, with the participation of many experts and representatives from prestigious international organizations, shared valuable information on opportunities, challenges, price trends, and sustainable development and specific solutions to meet market requirements for around 100 attendees. FSC Vietnam congratulates CMO, representing the smallholders, and Mai Vinh Rubber Production and Trading Services Co., Ltd. and Viet Sing Joint Stock Company received the FSC FM/COC certificate for 2,060 hectares of rubber plantation in Binh Phoc, creating an FSC connection chain, supporting the removal of the bottleneck of the lack of FSC latex supply from Vietnam. This is also a great basis to promote the connection of the company's rubber products to buyers with requests. In the coming time, with the developments of FSC, such as the FSC Standard for smallholder groups, FSC certification in parallel with EUDR, and ecosystem services, it is hoped that we can connect the existing models as CMO with Mai Vinh Rubber Company and Viet Sing JSC and find the source of FSC rubber wood and connect Vietnam's FSC products to the world. Additional outcomes were also agreed. 📢𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) remains a staunch supporter of the EUDR’s ambition to create deforestation-free supplychains, in Europe and globally. We urge stakeholders to take the tangible steps already available and continue advancing forest stewardship together. The Vietnam Administration of Forestry, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An and the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association, held the Investment Promotion Conference for Large-Scale Forest Plantations with Sustainable Forest Management Certification, attracting over 100 participants in October at Vinh City, Nghe An Province. The conference reviewed the state of collaboration and investment in developing forest plantations for big timber, identified challenges, and proposed solutions to align with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Dr. Que Anh Vu, Country Manager of FSC Vietnam, delivered a presentation on the sustainable forest management certification in Vietnam, emphasizing FSC certification as a key solution to meet EUDR requirements by ensuring sustainable forest management and compliance with strict environmental and social standards. Deputy Director of the Forestry Department, Mr. Trieu Van Luc, stressed the need for public awareness, policy improvements, pilot forest insurance, and effective implementation of the National Forestry Planning for 2021–2030, aiming to expand certified forest areas and promote sustainable forestry development. Smallholders in the Asia-Pacific region typically manage less than 20 hectares of land, which often serves as a primary income source. Limited education and high poverty levels make it challenging for them to access the FSC system. FSC is developing a regional forest stewardship standard for smallholders to implement in the Asia-Pacific region. This standard has been devised to focus on the requirements that are most relevant to address the risks in the region. Field testing of the RFSS and a self-assessment checklist will take place in India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, with the support of certification bodies.
