Earlier this week, we hosted The PurpoSE Agenda 2024. It was incredible to witness the "Ecosystem Effect" in action - Investors, ecosystem builders, corporate leaders, educators, and policymakers gathered with one shared purpoSE: to collaborate and support Social Enterprises in driving meaningful change - right from the early stage. I had the privilege of moderating the Fireside Chat on the theme: “Social” and “Enterprise” – Complementary or Contradictory? A big thank you to Wei Jie from Foreword Coffee and Kai from Stick 'Em for your candid insights—and for taking on the spontaneous rapid-fire questions at the end! 🔥 There were so many insights but here's a few of my favourites: 💡 Not all Social Enterprises are the same Every founder’s journey, business model, and impact strategy is unique. Taking time to speak with them to understand their motivations and the communities they serve is key to appreciating their vision and impact. 💡 Self-care is essential Social entrepreneurs carry immense responsibility. A crucial reminder: take care of yourself first. Sustainable impact begins with sustainable founders. 💡 What sets Social Entrepreneurs apart: profits to fuel purpoSE For traditional entrepreneurs, selling more is about making more money. For social entrepreneurs, it's about selling more to create a larger impact. While both strive for growth, the "why" is what sets them apart. The Future of Elderly Fitness: Is There a Market for It? Absolutely! 💪👴👵 Silvers, Masters, Legends, Prime — whatever you call it, if you see these programs in gyms, it means there's a growing focus on fitness for our aging population. So, how's it going? Is there really a demand for senior fitness? The answer is a resounding YES! At Innervate Fitness, we launched our Silvers program over a decade ago, pioneering the first seniors' functional fitness class in Singapore. Back then, gyms catered to the elderly, but a structured, engaging class setting? That was something new. It was a journey to show how CrossFit and Functional Fitness could be applied to seniors, but now it’s rewarding to see that many others have followed suit. Today, more gyms across the country offer similar programs. Is there more competition? Yes, and we welcome it! It’s a great sign. Why? Because fitness and movement are more critical than ever for our seniors. By 2030, a quarter of Singapore's population will be above 65. That’s a staggering statistic, and yet, how many fitness solutions and programs are tailored specifically to meet their needs? The fitness industry is evolving, and I hope we continue to see more programs genuinely targeting those who need it the most. This isn’t about following trends — it’s about doing the hard work and providing meaningful, sustainable fitness solutions for the seniors who need it most. Let’s keep pushing for a healthier, stronger future for everyone.
