Advanced Resources International is pleased to share American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) August volunteer spotlight is on Denise Hills! Denise has been an AGU member since 2008 but attended her first annual AGU meeting in 1998, where, she said, even though attendance was likely half of today’s numbers, her network played an integral role in her navigating the meeting. Nominated for her work as the recent Chair of the Position Statement Committee – the volunteer group overseeing the process of creating and updating AGU’s extensive catalog of position statements – Denise has seen volunteer work shape many aspects of her varied and exciting career path. Her early work with Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) led her to connect with the AGU Informatics Section which she led as President between 2019 - 2020. Since then, she has served on the Executive and OSPA Committees of the Science and Society Section, on the Charles S. Falkenberg Award Committee, the Informatics Sections’ Leptoukh Lecture Award Committee, the Fall Meeting Program Committee, and currently serves on the AGU Governance Committee. Denise also served as a member of the first cohort of Voices for Science advocates. Denise is a project manager for Community Benefits Planning and Energy and Environmental Justice at Advanced Resources International, Inc. Her current projects primarily focus on community benefits planning centering on energy and environmental justice as it connects geologic carbon storage projects, with projects throughout the US including Alabama, Louisiana, and California. Congratulations Denise!
