On August 18th, 1986, I’d just transitioned from news reporter/anchor to sports director at WOKR in Rochester, now 13WHAM. The big sports story that first day was Jim Kelly signing to play with the Buffalo Bills, after initially refusing to play in the city that would become his home. I was privileged to cover the team’s rise from the ashes but returned to my home in news as my friend Mike Catalana took over and covered the Bills run of four straight Super Bowl appearances. While I’m two years into a new career at Alesco Advisors, and 35 years removed from my last sportscast, it was great fun to be among the guests on WXXI’s “Connections” with Evan Dawson, including my Alesco colleague Eric Morris, to discuss what a return to the Super Bowl would mean for Bills fans and Western New York.
