Last week, our Mobility Team, in partnership with CoMotion LA, brought out a delegation of 7 UK companies to participate in a weeklong programme dedicated to the future of clean and safe multimodal mobility. The week kicked off with a VIP reception at Consul General Paul Rennie, OBE's residence followed by numerous site visits, market intelligence, informative sessions, and networking🌎. Ian was selected to lead a workshop about zero emission delivery zones DROMOS GmbH: CTO and Managing Director Dr. Martin Dürr. Martin presented about Dromos as part of the innovators programme. 🚀 As a former #GEOINTer, nothing makes me prouder than supporting solutions for real world problems in space. On October 21-25, I had the great honour and privilege of working with Mandala Space Ventures to deliver the 2024 #SoCal-UK Space Accelerator, funded by UK Space Agency. Nine UK startups took part in a weeklong programme of events including site tours of The Aerospace Corporation, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, VAST and Rocket Lab. Our Consul General, Paul Rennie, OBE hosted a VIP reception at the British Residence for the cohort alongside key industry representatives and local economic partners, including Lucius Martin, Deputy Mayor of Economic Development for the City of Long Beach and Felipe Cusnir, Executive Director of World Trade Center Long Beach. The programme culminated in Demo Day where the cohort had the opportunity to pitch to an audience featuring VCs, United States Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), The Aerospace Corporation, and other key industry players. The magic of theatre and the joy of quality entertainment is something that inspires audiences around the world🎭. That is why the prestigious National Theatre is one of Britain’s most important exports in the US- especially in LA, where the entertainment industry thrives, and creative talent is celebrated. Last weekend, Consul General Paul Rennie, OBE and Deputy Consul General Lara Hallett had a little preview of the remarkable talent that the National Theatre has to offer at the live screening of their incredible production of Frankenstein at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Prior to the show, they attended a donor reception that officially launched the partnership between the American Associates of the National Theatre and The Wallis. Consul General Rennie gave remarks about the vital cultural exchange between the UK and the US represented by this dynamic partnership. In both the UK and the USA, the aerospace industry has taken off🚀. Our Consulate’s Business and Trade team has partnered with Mandala Space Ventures with sponsorship by UK Space Agency for the first ever SoCal-UK Space Accelerator programme, hosting nine UK space start-ups in LA- a leading city in space technology and innovation. As part of the programme, Consul General Paul Rennie, OBE, Director of Trade Olivia Gray-Rodgers, and Mandala organised a reception for the UK start-ups at the Consul General’s residence and joined them on a tour and presentation of two key locally headquartered aerospace companies, VAST and Rocket Lab.
