About us

Our Mission: Children's Aid helps children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive supports to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. For 170 years, Children’s Aid has been committed to ensuring that there are no boundaries to the aspirations of young people, no limits to their potential. We are leading a comprehensive counterattack on the obstacles that threatens kids’ achievement in school and in life. At Children’s Aid, we are teachers and social workers, coaches and health care providers. We know what it takes to ensure children grow up strong and healthy, and ready to thrive in school and life.

  • During the 2023-24 school year, 1 in 8 NYC public school students—nearly 146,000 children—navigated homelessness last year. The impact? Higher dropout rates, chronic absenteeism, and increased disciplinary actions. At Children’s Aid, we know that stability leads to success. That’s why our Community Schools provide essential support, including: ✅ Mentorship & after-school programs ✅ Parent engagement & family resources ✅ Health services & counseling A recent pilot program at Whitney Young Jr. Campus in the Bronx showed promising results: students in participating families saw nearly 70% improved attendance rates. With dedicated student support coordinators, we helped families navigate housing challenges, access critical resources, and build trust that extends beyond the classroom. As the number of housing-insecure students reaches record highs, we must continue investing in solutions that work. 📖 Read more about the impact of our work: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dt_3pC5y #ChildrensAidNYC #SupportingNYCYouth #CommunitySchools #EducationMatters

  • Black History Month is a time to reflect on the resilience, leadership, and unwavering contributions of African Americans who have shaped the fight for economic justice. This year marks 100 years since the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and Maids became the first Black-led union recognized by the American Federation of Labor—an achievement that continues to shape industries today. From pioneering labor organizers like A. Philip Randolph to civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Black leadership has redefined the pursuit of fair wages, safe working conditions, and economic equity. Their courage and vision have left an undeniable impact on the workforce and continue to inspire the ongoing fight for justice. At Children’s Aid, we carry these values forward by advocating for the well-being of children and families, ensuring they have the tools and support needed to build bright futures. This month and beyond, we recognize that the fight for justice is ongoing, and we remain committed to fostering opportunity and equity in the communities we serve. #BlackHistoryMonth #ChildrensAidNYC
