Unity is power and unity is strength Daizy lives in the Bulisa district of Uganda, where women and their communities have been subjected to land grabbing and displacement due to the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). Daizy also faces further challenges of exclusion and discrimination due to her disability. But, Daizy has found community with the National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE) and is now a key member of their ecofeminist movement. The Consortium will be welcoming Dr. Patrick Clarkin as the second speaker in our Spring 2025 Speaker Series! Dr. Clarkin is the Chair of the Anthropology Department at UMass Boston and has spent over two decades researching the impact of war on human health and development, particularly among Southeast Asian refugee populations.  In his upcoming talk, “Coming of Age in War: Puberty in Girls During Conflict,” Dr. Clarkin will explore how war-related stressors shape biological development, with a focus on their effects on puberty and menarche in girls. Drawing on historical and contemporary cases, he will discuss patterns of disrupted development, possible biological mechanisms, and the broader implications for human health. This talk is based on his collaborative research with Dr. Meredith Reiches, a biological anthropologist and founding member of Harvard University’s GenderSci Lab.  This event will be in person only. Please welcome Hunter Marshall-House as the final member of our spring intern cohort! Hunter holds a BA in International Studies with a Political Economy concentration from the University of Tampa, and an MSc in Culture and Conflict in a Global Europe from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her research interests include community crisis mobilization, expressions of (in)security among vulnerable groups, and intersectional feminist analyses of political communication and narrative framing. Hunter will be leading our research hub management, Zotero, and social media teams, while also contributing to website outreach efforts, annotated bibliographies, and the Feminist Roadmap for Sustainable Peace and Planet project.
