As the EU's public-private #research partnerships celebrate their 20th anniversary, change is on the horizon. At a recent European Commission conference, the call for fewer but bigger #partnerships in the next EU Framework Programme (#FP10) post-2027 took centre stage. While Horizon Europe has driven #innovation and collaboration, concerns about complexity and administrative burden remain. With a focus on streamlined portfolios, better #governance and faster pathways to market, the Commission aims to strengthen partnerships for Europe's strategic goals. But can simplification deliver without disrupting success? 📌 More: https://lnkd.in/eTSvig28

💭𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀! 2024 marked the 20th anniversary of the first #ERA-NET partnerships. The European Partnership Stakeholder Forum, held on December 4–5, reflected on the progress made since then and highlighted the importance of the European Research Area (ERA). The forum was co-organized by ERA-LEARN and the European Commission in #Brussels. Newly elected EU Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva set the scene, and we spoke with Lisa Lundmark, attending as a representative of the CETPartnership, to hear her following takeaways! 🟢𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 Partnerships come in many forms, each with different characteristics, interests, challenges, and stakeholders. However, there is significant potential for synergies, as well as the sharing of experiences and results. A common success factor is the pooling of resources and funding. Looking to the future and the next Framework Programme (FP10), speakers emphasized that partnerships should continue collaborating with industry (not only public-private ones) and focus even more on knowledge valorization and bringing technology to the market. We should be more effective and work more concretely with synergies! 🟢𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗘𝗧𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮 As a co-funded (public-public) partnership, our type of collaboration between public R&I funders offers the opportunity to work with and support partnerships with third countries. This may be more challenging for public-private partnerships, as such collaborations could be seen as more competitive.   Thank you Lisa for the insights! We’re excited for the future endeavors of European Partnerships! #EuropeanPartnerships #CETPartnership #EuropeanResearchArea #EuropeanPartnershipForum

Ever since my Draft Report on the #HorizonEU interim evaluation with a view to #FP10 was published, may stakeholders reached out with questions and comments. I very much welcome this engagement and hope we can keep it up in the coming years so that we can built a strong FP10. 🙏     The political moment is challenging and Europe is at a cross-roads. #FP10 needs to be an expression of the future we see for Europe and I believe we need to show confidence in our future by investing in it through a bolt FP10 focused on our European innovative capacity. 🥼    To further stimulate debates, I am now sharing the complete text of my Draft Report and amendments combined. 📃     I am looking forward to the input from my colleagues and from stakeholders to further shape the Parliament's view towards #FP10 👏 Edit: The original document should not have been uploaded with the EP formatting as this might lead to confusion regarding the status of the document, which is not an official EP document.

Last week, ERRIN joined the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 🤝, organised by ERA-LEARN and the European Commission. The event marked the 20th anniversary of European Partnerships and featured the first official appearance of Commissioner Zaharieva.     During the forum, ERRIN Director Pirita Lindholm moderated a session on ‘Multi-actor collaborations for transformative resilience and long-term impact’ as part of her role as an ERA-LEARN Advisory Board member. The dynamic panel brought together inspiring speakers:  🔹 Orsolya Küttel, Driving Urban Transitions Partnership 🔹Frode Dal Fjeldavli, Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, 🔹Caroline O Sullivan, Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and 🔹Françoise Guaspare, CCAM Association and ERRIN #TransportWG leader. 💬 It was a rich discussion on the importance of multi-actor engagement and how to make it last.    Some 🔑 take-aways:  ✔️ Collaboration takes time but is a key to success  ✔️ Creating links and synergies with other Partnerships, initiatives and instruments is a must – but needs support from the EC  ✔️ Leveraging on multi-level governance is essential (remember also the regional level here!)  ✔️ Successful partnerships tackle fragmentation. Inclusive governance models – such as the one adopted by CCAM – mobilise the whole R&I ecosystem, including local and regional governments    A big thank you to Katja Lambrecht and Vitaliy Soloviy for the very efficient organisation of the session.    The event was also an occasion to pass on ERRIN’s messages on European Partnerships going forward, i.e. 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 #𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗥&𝗜 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. CEO - Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership

Over the past two days at the European Partnership Stakeholder Forum organised by ERA-LEARN, I had the privilege to engage in vibrant dialogues, meet new colleagues, gain fresh insights and exchange ideas with stakeholders from across the European R&I landscape. Here are some of my key takeaways: 🌟 Partnership Knowledge Hub (PKH) Opinion on FP10 The morning of Day 1 kicked off with the Partnership Knowledge Hub (PKH) meeting, where, together with representatives from Member States, Associated Countries and Partnerships, we discussed the PKH recommendations for FP10. The discussions covered pivotal topics (simplification, knowledge valorisation, global opportunities and critical challenges) and while I can’t say that we have all the solutions yet, we certainly identified key issues that need to be addressed to make FP10 and the future work of Partnerships as efficient and successful as possible... 💬 Panel Discussion: Multi-actor collaborations for transformative resilience and long-term impact On Day 2, I had the honor of participating in a panel moderated by Pirita Lindholm alongside esteemed colleagues from partnerships such as Frode Dal Fjeldavli from the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, Caroline O Sullivan from the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and Françoise Guaspare from CCAM Association. We explored how to improve inclusivity, efficiency, and collaboration with diverse groups of stakeholders to achieve lasting impact. It was a lively exchange of ideas, and I left with renewed motivation to bring fresh approaches to our work at the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership. A big thank you to Katja Lamprecht for the great organisation! 🤝 Cross-Partnership Synergies Workshop On Day 2, I also participated in the Water4All - Partnership workshop which provided a perfect example of how partnerships can align on concrete actions. From addressing the water topic from diverse perspectives and facilitating exchanges among our projects and living labs to fostering international engagement, we explored ways to build synergies and drive impactful outcomes. These discussions offered a vivid example of the collaborative potential across partnerships. I’m excited to take these ideas forward into the new year! Thank you Blum Ariane for the invitation, and a big thanks to all the colleagues for facilitating such insightful discussions. It’s always a privilege to be part of such vibrant conversations, learning from colleagues, and shaping the future of European R&I partnerships together. These discussions also give us the chance to reflect, be critical, and stay ambitious about the challenges, yet pragmatic about the solutions ahead. Let’s keep the dialogue and work going! 🚀
