On the eve of the 2024 National Research Conference for the Prevention of Firearm-Related Harms, we have immense gratitude for our Inaugural President, Dr. Sonali Rajan. Her passion and energy and leadership in establishing the Society - the only national professional society devoted specifically to firearm-harm prevention research - will shape the field for years to come. If you see her this week, share a "thank you"! #2024FirearmResearchConf

Student & Trainee Spotlight Time! Meet Camerin Rencken, a PhD Candidate at the University of Washington and with the University of Washington Firearm Injury & Policy Research Program. Research interests: supporting school shooting survivors, evaluating the impact of firearm policies, causal inference in observational studies, and integrating qualitative methods within epidemiological frameworks. Why research firearms? The loss of a close friend to firearm violence profoundly shifted my academic focus. This experience made me recognize the widespread impact of firearm violence on communities and underscored the need to address it as both a public health issue and a social justice concern. Firearm violence is an equity issue, disproportionately affecting marginalized populations. This drives and motivates me daily, inspiring me to apply my training to a complex problem that requires a collaborative, community-driven response across disciplines and sectors. Through my research, I aim to honor my friend’s memory by working toward solutions that prevent others from experiencing similar loss and injustice.
