This Alliance will be convened by the Foundation Earth team, who are joining EIT Food Foundation Earth has been leading the drive towards independent environmental scoring of food and drink products - with the support of Europe’s major food and drink businesses The International Alliance for Food Impact Data provides a unique opportunity to address the lack of standards and coordination between stakeholders at an EU and international level, which has hampered the roll-out of an environmental scoring standards for the food and drink industry THANK YOU to all that have been on this exciting journey with us. https://lnkd.in/dvVY9z2E

Great to see research promoting policy as a driver for ecosystem service evaluation. Great start to shifts in the financial system for holistic accounting.
🍃 How can we include nature’s value in policy making? Ecosystem services, like crop pollination and water purification, are key for our economies. However, they’re often overlooked by traditional economic indicators, such as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This calls for a move towards the introduction of a new measurement - the Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) - to better understand the value of nature in our economy. Our study shows how GEP can be applied alongside the conventional GDP indicator to offer a more accurate policy assessment. By integrating nature-inclusive policy-making, we can improve the quality of new policies and better protect our natural capital. Foundation Earth announces a review and upgrade of its Life Cycle Assessment methodology Foundation Earth is pleased to announce a comprehensive review to upgrade its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. The current methodology, published open-source in March 2023, has been instrumental in driving forward our mission of a harmonised method which measures the environmental impact of food and drink products. However, as the field of sustainability science evolves, so too must our tools and approaches. Why this review matters: The LCA methodology is a cornerstone of our work, enabling us to assess the environmental impacts of food and drink products from cradle to grave. This review is a critical step in ensuring our assessments reflect the latest advances in environmental science while continuing to progress harmonisation. Objectives of the review: Incorporate latest scientific research in the methodology: We aim to integrate the most recent findings in sustainability science, ensuring our methodology aligns with the latest developments in LCA and environmental policy in Europe and beyond. Enhance Data Quality Rating (DQR): By refining our DQR system, we strive to provide even more precise and accurate results, increasing the use of primary data where possible. Improve Grading System: Working with stakeholders and data experts we will review our Grading System to improve the accuracy and fairness of grades across all food categories. How to Get Involved: We are actively involving a diverse range of international stakeholders - including industry experts, small and multi-national food and drink manufacturers, academic researchers and policymakers - to gather broad-based views on this important work. If you are interested in taking part, you can provide initial feedback here: Online Survey: accessible via the following link: https://lnkd.in/dE_QUq49 This work is supported by EIT Food and delivered with our partners Mérieux NutriSciences | Blonk Birnie Consultancy. #LCA #actiononfood #foodsystemstransformation #foodandbeverageindustry #datascience #sustainablesupplychain

Fix the system, not women. 🚺 Women’s leadership development programmes are often focused on changing women to fit into a stereotypical, often ‘masculine’, leader. This is because we all buy into the myth that #women need to develop and adapt to the system. We believe in empowering women leaders to think about what they can do to change the #FoodSystem. 🌱💪 To mark International Women's Day, the #EITFoodFight 👊 podcast host Matt Eastland welcomes Shima Barakat and Maarten van der Kamp for an inspiring conversation on #GenderEquality and women leadership in the #FoodIndustry. With the 2024 #IWD theme being "Inspire Inclusion,” join Matt, Shima, and Maarten to celebrate the fifth anniversary of #WELeadFood – a training programme and network of women leaders and entrepreneurs to drive change, innovation and sustainability within the food sector. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/dhMwRU9b #ImprovingFoodTogether #IWD2024

Interesting study on #truecost of #environmentalimpact of food in Germany. Betty Chang Julia Vogt Klaus G. Grunert
New findings here suggesting that an almost 100% increase in the cost of select food items sold in German #supermarket Pennys to reflect the ‘true cost’ to the environment barely dented sales. Authors presume it’s because consumers were informed that the added revenue would be redirected to charitable causes.
