About us
HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) is a leadership development and research organization that is dedicated to creating and sustaining a vast network of women and gender-diverse leaders in higher education. Through various programs that support leaders in every stage of their careers, HERS provides program participants with transformational experiences and opportunities that result in stronger institutions of higher education. HERS believes that impactful leadership not only requires women and gender-diverse individuals in leadership positions, but demands that each bring their unique voice and perspective to their leadership role. Founded in 1972, HERS proudly serves as both a network and hub of resources for women and gender-diverse people eager to advance both themselves and their respective institutions of higher education. For nearly 50 years, HERS has made great strides with respect to the advancement of women and gender-diverse individuals in higher education. However, there is much work to be done and HERS plans on boldly moving onward to ensure greater diversity and equality in university and college leadership moving forward. This scholarship opportunity makes a huge impact on the ability for more women to participate in this program.
At HERS, we believe leadership development should be accessible to leaders across all fields, institution types, and practice areas. That's why we're proud to offer financial support through the HERS Scholarship Fund, made possible by generous contributors - many of whom are HLI alums. HERS scholarships cover up to 50% of the program fee and preference is given to leaders from underrepresented institution types (community colleges, HBCUs) and units (Athletics, IT, HR). Don't let financial constraints hold you back! Apply to the HERS Leadership Institute today- if you are accepted, you can apply for funding through a HERS Scholarship. “It’s about more than just valuing different perspectives — It’s about empowering those perspectives to shape the future of science.” Gloria Thomas Ph.D., President of HERS (Higher Education Resource Services), believes that the STEM field demands more than technical expertise—it requires inclusive leadership, humanity, and diverse perspectives. Transforming Higher Education Leadership for Equity and Belonging: A persistent challenge in STEM is ensuring that women and gender-diverse students feel a true sense of belonging. Many women, especially women of color, invest years in building scientific expertise only to leave the academy due to systemic barriers and a lack of inclusivity. Why this work matters: Gloria Thomas’s work proves that “Science also needs liberal thinking and humanist perspectives; and an approach to engaging people in a way that everyone should have a voice.” Like Thomas, we're committed to transforming STEM ecosystems and creating a future in which all who wish can reach their full potential in STEM. Through the Clare Boothe Luce Program for Women in STEM and STEM Convergence, we aspire to close the gender gap in the field, broaden the participation of women from diverse backgrounds, and advance women-led STEM innovation for positive social change. https://lnkd.in/gQwDsdY3

This year, your generosity made a difference for the 188 women and gender-diverse leaders who participated in the HERS Leadership Institute - but countless more are waiting for their chance to lead. It's your last chance to help HERS meet our 2024 goal to raise $30,000 to support six leaders to attend HLI in 2025. If each HERS alum unites to give a personally meaningful gift now, HERS can ensure leaders from institutions with the greatest need receive the opportunity to transform their careers. Make your tax-deductible contribution before the clock strikes midnight on Tuesday evening - with just hours to go, the next generation of presidents, chancellors, and deans is counting on you! If you have given already to help us achieve this end-of-year goal, we are ever so grateful. Thank you for investing in the HERS mission - to empower bold and equity-minded women and gender-diverse leaders to strengthen higher ed. https://lnkd.in/gHj-TVJa #HERSnetwork #HigherEducation #HigherEducationLeadership #CollegesAndUniversities

Institutions are grappling with the challenge of managing AI tools that can auto-join meetings and process sensitive information—sometimes without users realizing it. The result? A growing governance gap that risks stifling academic discourse and compromising sensitive data. Higher ed must act now to align tech adoption with policies that prioritize transparency, privacy, and accessibility. Let’s leverage innovation responsibly. https://bit.ly/4g4ge62 #HERSnetwork #HigherEducation #HigherEducationLeadership #CollegesAndUniversities
