I have been working on this short film project with the very talented Alex Thompson and Micky Parsons as part of my role as the 2025 Group Town Centre Ambassador role. I have absolutely loved being involved and last night was the launch of this positive feel good short film about our town centre in Grimsby. So many people got involved including Lloyd Griffiths, Tommy Turgoose, Keeley Donovan, Nic Till of Riverhead Coffee Mark Webb James Elliott Jason Stockwood Lisa February Michelle Cook Sam Delaney Katie Hopper Richard Askam Lucy Ottewell-Key EMBA and so many more amazing people. Richard Parkes and Andrew Cooper and the team at Parkway Cinema have been a great support. Thank you to Steve Rusling for liasing with Parkway Cinema and sorting out all the tech. In a time when there seems to be so much negativity around it felt good to put together a film that highlights the positives. A short promotional film that encourages you to love your town and look beyond the challenges and problems and celebrate the achievements and successes and most important the people. We have some amazing people in our community who are doing great work. A big thank you to Alex and Micky the talented filmmakers who brought this vision to life. They generously contributed their time to and creativity without charge, simply to help us share this important message. Please visit their website https://lnkd.in/e5VJtkih to find out more about what these young entrepreneurs and filmmakers have to offer your business when it comes to storytelling via a promotional film. Thank you also to Gary Davies for the brilliant drone footage in this film. I would love to see this short promotional film to be seen by as many people as possible so please share, and encourage others to share too.

This is one of the saddest stories I've read in ages. A council too brassic to afford to replace swings in public playgrounds or to fix vandalised accessible swings for disabled children. I imagine it's not the only one. Grimsby was given the dubious honour of being the worklessness capital of England last week. If you want to invest in adults you absolutely have to invest in children. Make them feel valued and give the ones who wreck playgrounds an alternative. Next year we'll see OnSide's Horizon Youth Zone open. Investment from local businesses and philanthropists will give young people of the town somewhere safe to be, something to do and access to youth workers who believe in them, can spot their abilities and help them thrive. It can't come too soon. If your company wants to make a donation to a charity making change this year for Christmas have a look at @OnSide's Youth Zones. https://lnkd.in/eXGB6fvm

  • Today #GenerationIsolation has been launched by @OnSide. It is the largest study of its kind into the lives of young people outside of school. The report has found that young people want to get off phones but need real-life alternatives to kick the habit. Generation Isolation has been released to coincide with National Youth Work Week which begins today. We believe youth work is the untapped solution to the issues highlighted in the report; helping young people make friends, develop meaningful ‘in real life’ connections, gain experiences that build confidence and skills for adulthood and support from trusted youth workers.    This report highlights why our work and Horizon Youth Zone is so essential. Every young person has the right to high-quality youth centres and dedicated youth workers, providing opportunities in real life that are more compelling than life on screens.
