Earlier this month, Owens Corning employees from around the country participated in a unique team-building event hosted by Impact 4 Good. This organization connects corporations with community organizations to give back in fun ways. Owens Corning employees learned about food insecurity nationwide, as well as right here in Toledo. Then, they designed custom-made bags and delivered them to IFB. These hand designed bags are used for the Food Bags for the Homeless program. IFB partners with the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board for their Point-in-Time (PIT) counts to provide unhoused individuals with nutritious food options. Impact4Good also provided funding to fill the bags with ready-to-eat, shelf-stable food. Thank you Owens Corning and Impact4Good for including us in your team-building exercise for the second year in a row! Ann Malak Lisa D. Special shoutout to ProMedica, The University of Toledo Future Health Professionals, and Joe's Autos for lending their time to make a difference for area students in need. Volunteers also prepped, packed, and distributed 200 hot meals at our three neighborhood sites on each of the two weekends. IFB and Lucas Metropolitan Housing celebrated one year of collaboration on the IFB Pantry at Weiler Homes last week. The pantry received over 1,000 visits in its first year. Guests like the variety of food options, especially fresh dairy, meat, and produce and cooking staples like oil, spices, and flour. The first year of the pantry was sponsored by the Community Impact Fund of the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. In 2025, the pantry will be sponsored with a $50,000 grant from the Stranahan Supporting Organization of the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. S&G Stores have committed to sponsor the pantry with a $100,000 multi-year donation. The IFB Pantry at Weiler Homes has created a space for members of the Weiler Homes and Spieker Terrace communities to come together. LMH staff and volunteers note that residents are beginning to know each other, to share resources, and develop a network of support. For instance, LMH now hosts coffee hours every two weeks for residents to meet and spend time with each other. The pantry receives bread and bakery items for these events via IFB's participation in the Panera Bread Day-End Dough-Nation Program. Thank you to our generous sponsors at the Greater Toledo Community Foundation and S&G Stores. Your commitment to serving our neighbors in Weiler Homes and Spieker Terrace is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the third-grade students at Toledo Islamic Academy for their wonderful food donations! Students heard from IFB Program Manager Lauren Bacans-Grounds as part of a lesson on community and how to help locally, particularly in regard to hunger. They asked thoughtful questions during discussion and were inspired to host a food drive to benefit the IFB's Pantry Programs. The students collected their donations over a two-week period. These items will be stocked in the IFB Pantry at Perrysburg Heights Community Association (PHCA) and in the pantry at Sunshine Communities.
