About us

Introducing It's NOLA, the game-changing solution for granola lovers tired of messy crumbs. Hand-rolled and vegan, gluten-free, and naturally low in sugar, these small batch granola balls by Margaret Barrow are set to impress. With flavors like Luscious Cranberry Coconut, Sassy Mango Masala, Scrumptious Strawberry Banana, and Dark Decadent Chewy Chocolate, there's something for everyone. Margaret's journey from professor to granola entrepreneur began when she shared her handmade treats with her students, who couldn't get enough. Encouraged by their enthusiasm, she founded Brooklyn Granola, now known as It's NOLA, to bring healthy snacking to a wider audience. It's NOLA is not only dedicated to providing delicious snacks but also supporting community college mentoring programs. Thanks to National Retail Federation for keeping us up to date about the ongoing discussions about tariffs within the retail industry. Today, we're a bit anxious about future tariffs promised by the Trump Administration. We began reaching out to our organic ingredient distributors to find out how they're preparing. Here's what we're being told: "From looking at the list of products you are purchasing, there are ingredients that do not get produced in the USA because they just do not grow here… for example, coconut, cashews and pumpkin seeds. That said, one of our stated goals for 2024 is to get closer to the source for as many bulk products as we can. We have been successful in doing some direct imports this year on organic coconut milk and cream, organic sugar, plant based shredded cheeses and more will follow. None of these are produced in the USA so we will have to see how any tariffs affect the prices we get. We have heard from economic experts that high tariffs can lead to inflation which will be across the board. If that happens, we won’t be able to do much about rising prices. Let’s hope it does not go that way since we have had our share of inflation from the last round. “ Since we launched in 2018, we've seen a number of granola companies close, often because of the constant rise in ingredient prices. Now, here we are at the precipice of another round of possible ingredient costs. We're feeling some anxiety. Are we going to have to change our recipes? Pass on costs to customers? The worst case scenario . . . . No, we don't want to think about that. We'd love to hear from others (food industry folks and consumers) who share our anxiety. What are you doing to prepare for another round of tariffs?

Here are some zero-waste kitchen essentials that are sure to make anyone's kitchen a green one: - Reusable glass water bottle: This is one of our favorites! - Bamboo kitchen utensil set: Bamboo is 100% biodegradable, talk about sustainable! - Recycled-made linens like napkins and tablecloths Still craving for more? • It’s no secret that sharing food is typical for strengthening bonds with our friends and family. It’s also a great way to do so in the workplace. Thanksgiving not only gives us time to spend with our families, but to also reflect on what we are grateful for and how we can be more intentional moving forward. Sharing meals with coworkers can build trust and improve group dynamics, thus making the team more productive. There are many ways to deepen connections through food. To do so, you can: - host small team lunches to encourage connection. - provide delicious yet healthy snacks that support diverse dietary needs. - take small snack breaks to nurture more authenticity to inspire creativity and productivity. At It’s Nola, we truly believe in the power of food and bringing people together. Whether it’s this week during Thanksgiving, or during a team lunch, we believe in prioritizing healthy food options. After all, it has been proven to foster an environment where everyone feels valued and engaged. What are some ways that your workplace uses food to bring people together? We’d love to hear what you have to say down below!
