🌿 Celebrating Wetlands Together! 🌍 We’re thrilled to see Qs Impact Kigali Council and ARCOS Network championing wetland restoration under the Living Lakes Network! The Nyandungu Eco-Park is a fantastic example of how wetlands can drive biodiversity, eco-tourism, and community resilience. Together, we can value, protect, and inspire! 💚 #LivingLakes #WetlandRestoration #Biodiversity #Sustainability #WetlandsDay2025
On February 8, 2025, QS Impact Kigali Rwanda Council proudly joined ARCOS Network and fellow environmental champions in celebrating World Wetlands Day organized under the Living Lakes Network, biodiversity and and Climate Project. This year's theme, "Protect Wetlands for a Common Future: Value, Protect, and Inspire," reinforced the urgency of wetland conservation. A highlight of the event was the introduction to Nyandungu Eco-Park, a remarkable wetland restoration project initiated in 2018 and officially opened in July 2022. The park spans 121.5 hectares, with an additional 43 hectares under restoration. 90% of the park is native trees, including 54 medicinal plant species and diverse bird populations. The park enhances air and water quality and promotes community engagement while providing eco-tourism, job opportunities, and research prospects. During the Wetland Species Check Listing, participants identified more than 20 different species of birds and trees in less than an hour, gaining valuable insights into ecosystem health. Discussions emphasized removing invasive species, integrating learning technologies, and fostering youth-driven innovations for conservation. The CEO of ARCOS Network Sam Kanyamibwa emphasized that wetland restoration is not just an environmental duty but an economic and social opportunity for communities. The REMA Representative urged youth to innovate and lead conservation efforts, ensuring wetlands remain a legacy for future generations. As stewards of nature, we must act now—removing invasive species, integrating learning technologies, and promoting eco-friendly solutions. Together, we can value, protect, and inspire! This event marked not only a commitment to environmental stewardship but also the 30th anniversary of ARCOS Network. As young leaders, we are inspired to turn challenges into opportunities, ensuring that wetlands like Nyandungu remain a beacon of sustainability for future generations. #WetlandsDay2025 #NyandunguEcoPark #Biodiversity #SustainableFuture QS ImpACTRwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA)
