Is the possibility of an all-renewable future closer than we think? Earlier this month, Portugal used a near-all-of-the-above approach to supply power to its residents for six days using solely energy generated from hydro, solar, and wind, with production exceeding 1100GWh. The future is bright. ☀️ #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Hydropower #Wind #Solar

Last week, the Maryland Clean Energy Center led a delegation of #WoodyBiomass stakeholders from #Maryland on a tour of #biomass facilities throughout Vermont. The group learned about how Vermont is establishing itself as a leader in wood heating technology, using cutting-edge technologies to reduce carbon emissions and lower costs for consumers and businesses. Thank you to MCEC Wood Energy Coordinator, Maya R., for her efforts to advance MCEC’s mission of facilitating a clean energy future through the adoption of clean energy and climate mitigation products and technologies in Maryland. The final #SummitCircleBack Roundtable highlight looks at the Funding & Financing #Decarbonization session, hosted by Executive Director of the Maryland Clean Energy Center, I. Katherine Magruder. Participants began the discussion by discussing how lack of awareness and understanding of available funding and financing programs are the biggest issues associated with getting capital into the hands of consumers. To deal with these challenges, the group identified creating a corps of project navigators at the community level to help plan and finance projects, only targeting investments that have measurable returns, rewarding investments in #LMI communities, and making funds readily accessible for shovel-ready projects. #MCEC #CleanEnergy #TogetherWeCan

The next #SummitCircleBack moves on to our Clean Transportation Roundtable, hosted by GREATER WASHINGTON REGION CLEAN CITIES COALITION Executive Director, Antoine M. Thompson The group identified administrative deficiencies and slowdowns, lack of resources and technical assistance for consumers, and insufficient coordination among and funding provided by agencies as challenges to the expansion of clean transportation resources in Maryland. Participants closed the session by discussing where stakeholders can find common ground and where legislative efforts to address challenges should be targeted, including the creation of workgroups, further incentives for owners, and creation of lessee-friendly policies that encourage #EV use and reduce barriers with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. #MCEC #CleanEnergy #TogetherWeCan

A new study revealed that #Maryland reduced its globe-warming emissions by a staggering 36% between 2005-2022, leading the nation in gross reduction. Thanks to forward-thinking administrations, policymakers, and leadership from state agencies, including Maryland Energy Administration and Maryland Department of the Environment, our state has established itself as a leader in the #cleanenergy transition and continues to be a hub for climate innovation. Even as Maryland makes remarkable progress, we must remember that there is still more work to be done. #TogetherWeCan #MCEC
