Just wrapped up a very engaging 2-day executive roundtable with National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors with OroCommerce in sunny Dallas, TX. Amazing conversations and group discussions covering 🤖 Artificial Intelligence (of course) Contract comparisons, forecasting, PDF-to-digital ordering (!), document review, RFP response...there seems to be nothing ChatGPT can't do. And yet, there was a lot more caution and realism in the conference around adoption. Data governance and privacy are big concerns, and the consensus was to start small and innovate quickly without looking for a "big bang" silver-bullet AI solution. Getting AI into existing platforms where key business data already lives is the big challenge. 👥 Leadership & Culture Lead by Walking Around - staying connected to spread out teams across DCs, branches, warehouses, and offices. All the leaders in these sessions are on the road a lot, it seems. Recognize people early and often, and when you do an employee survey - please please please follow through on the results and close the loop with your teams on "hey, you said x so we did y" in order to build trust. Workforce retention came up a lot - are you a talent factory (we skill people up and then they leave) or a talent magnet (people already skilled want to work with us)? 📈 Improvement & KPIs Good concept presented on tech KPIs - lagging vs leading indicators - how to think of specific metrics as predictive of future success (or issues). A common theme was "how to innovate and improve on a limited budget" - which. Yeah, that's all of us now, isn't it? The answer is probably AI, which is a big improvement on NFTs if you ask me. Data and tracking to validate progress against goals came up again and again. PowerBI seems like the common answer for stitching together that data from disparate systems in order to dashboard and report those KPIs. Good to know some things haven't changed. Finally, if you made a drinking game out of the phrase "green screen" you'd be sloshed 2 hours in, so I'm glad I passed on doing that. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, learned a bunch, connected with some much smarter people, and am making a point to spend more time engaged with content from National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors.
