This week, it was a privilege to join our client Veolia North America and be among the first to see Nauticus ' new state-of-the-art exhibits before they open to the public during the museum’s Grand Opening at downtown Norfolk, Virginia’s beautiful waterfront! Alongside Congressman Bobby Scott and Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, yesterday’s event was the culmination of the museum’s multi-year Reimagine Nauticus campaign. Because of this fantastic initiative, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the science and history of wind power – and through Veolia’s contributions, they can explore the recycling process up close, even seeing and feeling an actual wind turbine blade! Since 2020, Veolia NA has been processing and recycling wind blades from domestic wind turbines. Today, this ground-breaking program has processed over 6,500 blades, a major milestone. Wind turbines need to be replaced every 20 years – and this solution avoids retiring blades in landfills, instead shredding them into small, confetti-like material which cuts carbon emissions at cement plants by nearly 30%. We are so proud of our partner, Museum of Science, and its work to make STEM education accessible to all. As part of #MassSTEMWeek, students from East Boston were joined by Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler as they participated in the Museum's 2024 Engineering Design Challenge. Through the challenge, students considered the effects of plastic pollution and worked together to engineer filters to reduce plastic waste. We're so proud to be working with Mass MoCA, the nation's largest contemporary art museum and a vital part of the Berkshire's cultural community and economy. The Plastic Bag Store is the latest smart, immersive exhibit that combines art and social commentary to showcase the impacts of single-use plastics on the environment. MASS MoCA recently hosted Chair John Barrett, Chair Mindy Domb, Senator Becca Rausch, and DEP Deputy Commissioner John Beling to see The Plastic Bag Store and to partake in an interactive panel discussion.
