As we'll enter January and kick off the new year, RTCA will host several meetings to advance aviation technologies. SC-222 will meet to initiate public commenting for new revisions of Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) and Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards (MASPS) for satellite systems. SC-206 will approve DO-364A/ED-335, MASPS for Aeronautical Information/Meteorological Data Link Services, to move forward for publication in March. SC-135, focused on Environmental Testing, will meet to conclude internal review on DO-160H, with plans for public commenting in 2025. November saw progress in RTCA’s Special Committee work advancing aviation technologies.   SC-214 (Standards for Air Traffic Data Communication Services) made progress toward finalizing interoperability standards for next-generation air traffic communication.   SC-243 (Airborne Electronic Hardware Development Assurance) advanced efforts to enhance airborne electronic hardware safety, preparing for future standards.   SC-228 (Minimum Performance Standards for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems) continued refining performance standards for uncrewed aircraft, focusing on detect and avoid technologies.   This progress reflects continued work to innovate and ensure aviation safety. RTCA Special Committee Progress in October 2024   October was a busy and productive month for RTCA’s Special Committees, with several standards making progress toward publication in 2025.   Environmental Testing (SC-135) is preparing for Final Review and Comment (FRAC) on DO-160H, scheduled for early 2025. TCAS (SC-147) is moving forward with revisions to the MOPS for ACAS Xr. Aviation data security (SC-216) is working on new guidance, with publication expected in mid-2025. Aeronautic Mobile Satellite Services (SC-222) has updated its plan, aiming for FRAC to begin in early 2025. Air Traffic Data Communications (SC-214) and Flight Vision Systems (SC-213) are both finalizing interoperability and flight vision standards, with publication targeted for the end of 2024. SC-227 and SC-235 are also preparing to present important standards to the Program Management Committee (PMC) in December, when the PMC will consider the publication of 10 new technical standards! We are excited to announce Dr. Tracy L. Lamb Ph.D, MBA, FRAeS. as the new Chair of the RTCA Board of Directors, making history as the first woman to hold this role, and Jim Coon as the newly elected Vice Chair. Tracy brings 28 years of leadership in commercial aviation, including her current role as Chief Safety and Quality Officer at Supernal. An international airline pilot and business aviation operator, she is also a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Hall of Fame inductee for Women in Emerging Aviation Technologies. Tracy is a recognized Subject Matter Expert in uncrewed aircraft safety by International Civil Aviation Organization and founded Quantum A.I., a company providing innovative safety management software. Her expertise spans aviation safety, human factors, and regulatory compliance, shaping the future of aviation safety and technology.   Jim has served on the RTCA Board of Directors since 2022. He has a distinguished career with over three decades of experience in aviation policy and advocacy, and currently serves as Senior VP for Government Affairs at AOPA.   We look forward to their leadership as RTCA shapes the future of aviation safety and innovation in collaboration with its members.

Congratulations to Lorne Cass, outgoing RTCA Board Chair, on being named Board Member Emeritus! Lorne has served on RTCA’s Board of Directors since 2019 and has served as Chair since 2022.   As President of Aero NowGen Solutions LLC Solutions, LLC, and formerly with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Northwest Airlines, as well as an Air Traffic Controller, Lorne has been a driving force in advancing innovative approaches to create a more efficient, dynamic, flexible, and environmentally conscious National Airspace System, always prioritizing safety.   His leadership, mentorship, and vision have had a lasting impact on RTCA, and we are deeply grateful for his years of service.   Thank you, Lorne, for your exceptional contributions to our industry.
