We join those across the country and world in honoring the life and legacy of Cecile Richards—a fierce, indefatigable advocate for women’s health, rights and safety. Cecile’s leadership and ingenuity shaped the fight for reproductive rights. Her work continues to inspire efforts to protect and expand women’s freedom, and to ensure all who seek it have access to the reproductive care they deserve. We are forever grateful for her partnership. Our grantees Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Reproductive Freedom for All and National Women's Law Center shared what Cecile meant to them. Please join us in honoring her memory and read more about her life here: https://lnkd.in/g5vprKr4. May her memory be a blessing.

About us
At Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies, formerly Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, we partner with our grantees in the United States and Israel to pursue more just and inclusive societies. In the U.S., we aim to advance racial, gender and economic equity through investments in criminal justice, democracy and voting rights, K-12 public education, gender and reproductive equity and the family’s hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. We also invest in fostering a more joyful and diverse Jewish community. In Israel, we work toward a secure homeland for the Jewish people, a thriving democracy and an inclusive society that cares for its most vulnerable. Charles and Lynn Schusterman established the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation in 1987 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2021, we updated our name to Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies to reflect the full range of the Schusterman family’s philanthropic and advocacy work. Under the leadership of Stacy Schusterman, we invest in leaders, organizations and U.S. public policy to drive long-term systemic change. Our team works with grantees, experts, civic institutions and governments to create pathways to greater equity and inclusion. Our work is inspired by our founders’ commitment to pursue justice, repair the world and ensure all people are treated with dignity and respect. Three years after the fall of Roe v. Wade, in a rapidly evolving landscape of state-by-state restrictions, what can businesses do to prepare, anticipate, and protect their workforce against efforts to criminalize and ban abortion access? https://lnkd.in/edeK9U8B The restriction of access to abortions harms more than just workers’ access to healthcare; heading into 2025, threats to data privacy, commerce, travel, and regulatory structures add cost, chaos, and uncertainty across business operations. While the new U.S. president said he plans to “leave the issue to the states,” it is more likely that the administration will spur an onslaught of additional barriers to accessing abortion, along with other forms of reproductive healthcare, ranging from contraception and miscarriage management to IVF. BSR Co-Director, Center for Business and Social Justice Jennifer Stark and Manager, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Ashley Lin lay out six actionable steps for companies to protect their workforce and understand the collateral damage in post-Roe America. BSR’s Center for Business and Social Justice works with experts in reproductive health to provide actionable guidance to business. BSR members can contact the Center with inquiries (https://lnkd.in/erHNh7Dr) or connect with us by emailing hello@bsr.org. #roevwade #humanresources #diversityequityinclusion #socialimpact

Today marks 52 years since the Supreme Court ruled to protect the constitutional right to abortion in Roe v. Wade, and nearly three years since its protections were overturned in 2022. As abortion access becomes increasingly restricted, people across the country face mounting barriers to essential #reproductivecare. These challenges impact employees across industries and roles, giving businesses a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to take meaningful action for their workforce. 💼 Our grantee, BSR's Center for Business & Social Justice, supports a coalition of over 1,000 businesses across the U.S. to make a business case for #abortionaccess. In their new resource, Jennifer Stark and Ashley Lin outline six steps companies can take to navigate evolving state and federal laws and support their employees. On the National Day of Racial Healing (#NDRH), we draw inspiration from our grantees who lead efforts to break cycles of trauma and forge pathways to safety and healing for their communities. In our Criminal Justice portfolio, grantees like Equal Justice USA address inequities perpetuated by racism, including mass incarceration, by promoting alternative responses to violence and community-driven solutions. As a result, they are helping to create a future that promotes healing and justice. We are grateful for their transformative leadership. On this #MLKDay, we reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s enduring vision for justice and dignity for all people. In honoring his legacy, we recognize that this work is urgent and ongoing, and we remain dedicated to strengthening efforts toward realizing his vision for the long road ahead. As Dr. King said, “The time is always right to do what is right.”

It is hard to find the words to capture the full range of emotion we feel today. We are moved by the words so many are sharing as Israel welcomes home Emily Damari, Romi Gonen and Doron Steinbrecher. We hope and pray for the safe return of the remaining 95 hostages. May we find our way to a safer, more peaceful future for all in the region who seek it.
The Jewish community today is overwhelmed with emotion as we welcome Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher, back home after 471 days in captivity. Romi Gonen was shot and kidnapped from the Nova music festival. Emily Damari, the last remaining British hostage in Gaza, was also shot when she was abducted. Doron Steinbrecher was taken from her home at Kibbutz Kfar Aza. Every day for over 15 months, we have been thinking about them, praying for them, and advocating for their release. They have lived through an unimaginable nightmare, and our community will do whatever we can to help them on the long journey of healing and reintegration that lies ahead of them. We are hopeful that over the coming weeks, we will see continued hostage releases until every last one of the remaining 95 hostages are returned home.

Aldine Independent School District in Texas began the journey of drastically changing how reading is taught in 2020, not knowing that a global pandemic was on the horizon. When COVID hit, the district didn’t abandon the plan; they persevered. In part three of the Lemonada Media literacy series, host Gloria Riviera talks with Aldine Superintendent LaTonya Goffney and Executive Director of Literacy and Social Studies Jacqueline Beas about how they made the seismic shift to their #literacyeducation during the pandemic.
