2024 was one for the books at Pickle. This year, we’ve seen what’s possible when we share our closets with one another—and we couldn’t be more grateful for this amazing community. Our co-founder, Julia O'Mara, is reflecting on the highlights and what’s ahead—don’t miss her take! 👇🏻
What a year it’s been at Pickle! As we step into 2025, I’m filled with gratitude and awe for this community. Together, we’re redefining how people connect with fashion—ushering in a new era of commerce that’s affordable, accessible, sustainable, and fulfilling. In 2024, we hit incredible milestones: * In Manhattan alone, 1 in 4 women aged 18–35 use Pickle today. * Rental volume skyrocketed year over year: NYFW rentals grew 133%, Halloween rentals were up 255%, and wedding rentals increased by 519%. Today, we process more rentals in a week than we did in our entire first year. * Tens of thousands of people opened their closets, listing 150,000+ items to rent—the largest shared closet in the country! * Top lenders earned an average of $36,000 this year. * Our creator community doubled in 2024, growing organically as influential voices like Danielle Bernstein and Serena Kerrigan turned to Pickle—not just to rent clothes, but to engage their communities in more personal and meaningful ways. * We launched same-day rentals in LA, making iconic closets—like Kelli Berglund's and Katie Austin’s—available within hours for just 10% of retail prices. * New features like Lookbooks, Custom Lender Promos, and AI-powered discovery made renting from your closet—or your neighbor’s—easier than ever. To everyone who opened their closets, rented a dream outfit, listed that hidden gem, or supported us along the way—thank you. You’ve made Pickle more than an app. It’s a movement that’s democratizing fashion. The best part? We’re just getting started. 2025 is already shaping up to be a transformative year, and my co-founder Brian McMahon and I can’t wait to grow this incredible community, scale Pickle’s impact, extend its value, and fuel a circular economy. Here’s to another year of innovation, collaboration, and shaping a future where fashion brings us closer together!

ICYMI: In the midst of the holiday season, we launched Lookbooks, the newest feature on Pickle, designed to make sourcing outfits easier than ever! Proud to see it featured in Modern Retail by Julia Waldow (read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gjuKB-Ff). So, what are Lookbooks? Lookbooks bring Pinterest-style discovery to peer-to-peer fashion rentals, creating a fun, social, and collaborative way to organize, find, and actually wear the pieces that inspire you.We built Lookbooks in response to what we were already seeing on Pickle: lenders curating collections to make it easier for others to discover and rent items from their closets. This organic behavior aligned perfectly with a broader generational shift in shopping preferences: Gen Z and millennials prefer shopping in ways that are much more social, visual, inspirational and community-driven.
'People are looking for alternatives': How fashion rental platforms are marketing for holiday parties

‘Tis the season of company holiday parties (and all the other festive gatherings), and with it comes the inevitable question: “What do I wear?” For most of us, that’s met with uninspired glances at our closets—cue the burgundy jumpsuit, sequined maxi, and black feathered cocktail dress from years past—and a reluctance to splurge on something we’ll wear once. Enter Pickle. We built Pickle to solve dilemmas like these by connecting all our closets, making it easy (and affordable) to rent from each other, whether from a fashion editor down the block or a celebrity creator in LA. Need a look tonight or in the coming weeks? Pickle is one massive shared closet for sourcing the perfect holiday outfit—think a Retrofête mini, Helsa's red parasol dress, a vintage CHANEL flap bag, or a shimmery Mirror Palais gown…for a fraction of the retail price. The holidays just got a little easier. Meet your dream closet this season: https://lnkd.in/d73_u_Cf

There are thousands of early-stage startups attracting buzz and record funding—but which ones have the strongest potential to become category leaders? The Information answers it with this year’s list of Most Promising Startups—featuring Pickle among them!🎉🚀 “When Sabrina Carpenter appeared in a polka dot dress in her taste music video, the dress sold out in stores, but savvy shoppers turned to Pickle. The company has a solid wedge in the New York City fashion scene and is building up supply in Los Angeles. Local rentals are especially convenient on Pickle because users can pick up garments in person or have them delivered by DoorDash, but the option for long-distance delivery means growing markets like Miami and Chicago are not left out. Pickle is using just the right amount of AI by automatically scanning images uploaded by prospective lenders and adding tags to facilitate searches.”

Our co-founder and COO, Julia O'Mara, took the stage at Harvard Business School for its annual Retail and Luxury Goods Conference 👇🏻 …weighing in on the rise of re-commerce, peer-to-peer rentals, and what it means to shape a future of retail that’s more circular 🌎, accessible 👜, and, well, fun 💃.
This past weekend, I had the honor of speaking at Harvard Business School about reinventing retail and how re-commerce (and Pickle!) is transforming the way consumers shop - for the better. It was a privilege to share the stage with fellow panelists and brilliant minds in this space—The RealReal’s Samantha Porter McCandless, StockX’s Peter Curran, Archive’s Alex Kremer, and Beni’s, Kate Sanner. A big thank you to the HBS Retail & Luxury Goods Club (RLGC) for bringing this group together!

It’s official! We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our South Asian rental collection in partnership with Aayka Fashion, a female-founded brand known for its modern, artisanal, and luxe-yet-accessible South Asian occasion wear—featured in Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and beyond. The Pickle x Aayka collection includes 30 unique styles, each crafted by Aayka’s first-generation South Asian founders. Every choice—from functionality and color palette to materials—was made with fashion-forward twenty- to forty-somethings in mind, while keeping cultural authenticity and respect at the forefront. Think no-fuss pre-pleated saris, travel-friendly lehengas, bold, vibrant fabrics, and adjustable, body-inclusive silhouettes. Plus, there’s jewelry and coordinating sets for couples. It’s all available at Pickle’s West Village store or in-app, with rentals starting at less than $150/week. The TL;DR ‘why’ behind our partnership? We couldn’t ignore the growing demand in our respective communities (no matter their background) for South Asian occasion wear rentals. We heard the shared sentiment: excitement about the fashion, but uncertainty about where to start—what to wear, how to style it, and the costs, especially for one-time outfits. That’s where the Pickle x Aayka collection comes in. It’s all about making high-quality, modern South Asian fashion more accessible, affordable, and easy to navigate. The future of the fashion side hustle is very much here with Pickle. “With the rise of resale, customers now buy clothes safe in the knowledge that they can resell them at a later date to make up to 80-100% of their value back. But with peer-to-peer rental, they can make back up to 200% or more of the value of the clothing.” – Danny Parisi, Sr. Fashion Reporter, Glossy https://lnkd.in/gxZJJiFJ
