Small Charity Friendly Collective

Small Charity Friendly Collective

Non-profit Organizations

We are an informal collective of small charity friendly specialists.

About us

1. We work in YOUR best interest We put small charities first. We won't do or suggest anything that you don't really need, or that we aren't best placed to deliver - instead, we will connect you where appropriate to other small-friendly colleagues. We won't stick around any longer than necessary and will always ensure there’s a clear handover when it's time to move on; we aim to share our expertise and support you to develop solutions in-house where this is more affordable or works better long-term. 2. We cut through the noise We support you to do more with less, by identifying your top priorities and addressing them efficiently. We ensure our services are accessible - we avoid jargon, explaining things clearly and simply, and are committed to offering affordable, transparent pricing. 3. We meet you where you are We understand that if you're contacting us, it's to get some support - we don't expect everything to be in order, and won't judge, no matter where you’re up to. We tailor our approaches to small charities, your capacity and resources. We ditch the assumptions (for example around your capacity, reserves, or prior knowledge) and set realistic expectations based on your goals. 4. We learn from the sector We build connections with small charities and organisations that support them. We listen and respond to the challenges, needs and experiences of small charities, and improve our offers based on what we hear and learn. We loosely define ‘small charities’ as those with an approximate turnover of up to £1 million. As an informal collective which grew out of a charity our events are free to access and both collective members and contributors give their time freely.

  • ✨ Merry Christmas to all small charity folks ✨ As we approach the end of the year, we want to take a moment to say thank you for all you do. You’ve not only kept the lights on - despite everything that has emerged along the way - you’ve made people’s lives better, communities stronger, and oceans cleaner. As we draw the curtains on 2024, we hope you are able to take time to rest, reflect and recharge. ✨Let's kick off 2025 together ✨ And when the New Year comes, please join us for a small charity planning session where we will run through 3 things we all need to be on top of to make it through 2025 with lasting impact. ✨Three 2025 New Year Resolutions All Small Charities Need ✨ 1. Clarity of Purpose What is the change you want to see in the world in the coming 12 months? Be crystal clear about your charity’s mission and the activities that make the biggest difference. Just as importantly, identify what you won’t do. Saying “no” to activities that don’t align with your mission or stretch your resources too thin is a sign of strength, not weakness. Be focused. Stay on track. Now is not the time for mission drift. 2. A Plan for the Pounds Let’s talk numbers. Knowing how much is coming in and going out isn’t just about compliance —it’s essential for survival. Build a realistic budget based on your actual income and outgoings, not wishful thinking. Financial clarity gives you the power to get valuable sleep, make informed decisions, and deal with unexpected surprises. Remember, you’re not just managing money; you’re changing the world, one spreadsheet at a time. 3. Look after the People Ambition is essential, but so is sustainability. Align your plans with the people you have. Stretching too far can lead to burnout, it can compromise quality, and it can actually lower impact over the longer term. Sometimes, being a resilient charity means doing less now and achieving more later. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and pacing ourselves is key to lasting impact. As one small charity CEO once told us, building organisational resilience is actually doing organisational self care. Look after your people. ✨ A Gift for the New Year ✨ Join us and hit the ground running with a New Year check in. What: Small Charity 2025 Planning Session When: 10-11.30, 7th Jan 2025 Where: Online. Eventbrite link is in comments This is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and equip your charity for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Let’s work together to make 2025 a year of purpose, focus, and long lasting impact. ✨Wishing You a Merry Christmas✨ As we come to the end of December, take pride in all you’ve achieved this year. Your work matters, your dedication is noticed, and your impact is profound. Wishing you all peace and joy and a purposeful and impactful 2025. Yasmin G. • Introducing our new members! You may have seen our recent recruitment drive, and we're thrilled to be welcoming Claris and Flóra to the Collective as a result! Their collective experience in governance, EDI, strategic and operational planning and positive leadership will complement our existing range of small charity support. This year, we've experienced a lot of changes. We sadly lost dear Elizabeth and the valuable wisdom and insight she brought to the group earlier this year, and have since wished the fantastic Rachel and wonderful Laura well as they have stepped away from the Collective to focus on their next pursuits. We're so grateful for all their time, input and experience that have contributed to developing the Small Charity Friendly Collective, and are excited to continue to build on this foundation. In January, Liz, Michele, Mike, Sonia and Yasmin will be joined by Claris and Flóra to work out how we can bring even more 'small charity friendly' support to the sector, leading with our free annual conference on 29th April 2025. Save the date and stay tuned to find out more about our new members, our collective and individual offers, and the next conference! We look forward to seeing you soon! #Collective #Membership #Charity #Support
