Over the weekend, with $100K on the line for Hurricane Helene disaster relief, University of California Berkley student Daniel Villasenor went viral when he defeated the odds and successfully completed a field goal kick in a pair of our Checkerboard Slip-Ons. Daniel pocketed $100k in prize money, with ESPN pledging to match the amount and provide an additional $100k in funding toward the $500k hurricane relief fund. The moment was part of the “College GameDay” show kicking contest, which Villasenor had waited overnight for the opportunity to attend. It inspired our very own Steve Van Doren, son of founder Paul Van Doren, to match the funds with an additional $100k donation from Vans, supporting much needed relief for the impacted communities. As two of our most progressive and capable styles, our new MTE™ Crosspath—and its higher-cut sibling, the MTE Crosspath Mid—can tackle any terrain without sacrificing style. The silhouettes pull visual cues from our storied skateboarding footwear but are balanced with a technically advanced build to tackle uneven ground, inclement weather, and anything in between. The MTE Crosspath and Crosspath Mid are loaded with performance features, including uppers with reinforced abrasion paneling, seamless RAPIDWELD™ construction and a non-PFC DWR water-repellent coating for a protective yet lightweight and breathable fit. The midsole is made with at least 50% bio based EVA foam partially derived from plants and is USDA-certified Biobased. Additionally, 31% of the rubber used in the outsole is sourced from farms utilizing agricultural practices that promote biodiversity, enhance water cycles, improve soil health, and/or sequester carbon. Continuing her gold medal streak, our Global Skateboarding Team Rider Arisa Trew just won the women’s skateboard park contest at X Games Chiba in Japan over the weekend. Coming into the final in second place, Arisa was able to unseat the competition and win gold, shattering yet another glass ceiling in skateboarding to become the first athlete to win five X Games titles before the age of 15. In addition, Vans’ Global BMX team rider Courage Adams took third in men’s BMX street finals, and Rim Nakamura earned a silver medal in men’s BMX park. We’re proud to see our athletes always pushing progression of their sport and culture. Congratulations to Arisa, Courage, and Rim for your accomplishments!

Last week, we kicked off an NYC takeover spanning from Brooklyn to Soho, celebrating the skateboarding community and our free-spirited “Off The Wall” mindset of progression and youthful energy. Following a curated experience that paid tribute to NYC landmark and cultural institution Max Fish, the skateboarding community converged for a massive Vans Block Party at Brooklyn’s Skate Space 198 on Saturday that gathered NYC’s finest for a Skate Jam, learn to skate sessions and “Skate Rave.” Our team riders, including Curren Caples, Lizzie Armanto, Beatrice Domond, Efron Danzig, Zion Wright, and Dick Rizzo, among many others, brought the energy with a pro demo and supported the learn to skate sessions. Throughout the week, our Old Skool silhouette took center stage, from an exclusive colorway with Satoshi Nakamoto and customized Old Skools in the SC103 runway show, to a tease of the upcoming Punk & Yo Old Skool 36 and gifting the NY skate community with the Skate Old Skool. See more from the week's events below.
