This afternoon, we participated in the Business and Trade Select Committee’s roundtable at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd - Thank you Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid for the invitation! 🙏✨ It was an inspiring session, and here are some key takeaways: - Collaboration is the key to progress. 🤝 Businesses, the public sector, and governments need to align efforts. Siloed working is holding us back, and a joined-up approach is essential for tackling challenges and seizing opportunities. - Skills gaps are stopping progress. ❌ As AI, green industries, and the creative sector grow, we need to prepare people for these emerging opportunities. Schools and universities must play a bigger role in inspiring entrepreneurial careers and developing the right skills with help from local businesses and the Welsh Government. - Infrastructure gaps across Wales are limiting growth. 🚧 Beyond Cardiff and Newport, barriers like poor transport and digital connectivity make it harder for SMEs to scale. This isn’t just a local issue—it’s stopping the whole country from reaching its potential. At ICE, we’re committed to supporting entrepreneurs and working with others to create resilient communities across Wales. It’s time to tackle these challenges together and make Wales the best place to start and grow a business. What do you think is the biggest barrier to business success in Wales? #Collaboration #Entrepreneurship #EconomicGrowth #Wales #SMEs

There is no manual, no proven best practice or no established rule book. The very nature of innovation is that you discover what doesn’t work on your way to finding out what does. In the West Midlands, through research and partnerships with industry, our universities are instrumental in supporting that innovation. Stuart Croft, Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick, highlights in this blog: 🔬 How the university has fostered business engagement through its science park and various initiatives. 👥 Why this research infrastructure offers spaces for co-location, testing, and scaling ideas, which is vital for fostering innovation at all levels.
