This is regarding the Sky News Story this morning about a fake, live-in carer placed by an introductory care agency in the home of a vulnerable person. Able Community Care has been an Introductory Care Agency for over four decades as have other reputable care providers. To mention just two points of difference between us and the care agency involved, which had they been in place, the situation outlined would not have occurred: 1. Able Community Care interviews every potential live-in care worker, and we do not offer interviews to applicants who have not worked professionally for less than 12 months. The information is then robustly checked out. 2. For every booking, with the permission of every live-in carer, a photograph is sent to either the client, social worker, advocate, or family member so that the incoming carer can be checked on the doorstep by the carer who is in situ and has to stay to give a handover. Photographs are renewed every two years. Able Community Care, based in Norfolk but available everywhere. If you would like more information, please feel free to call us on 01603 764567. https://lnkd.in/eQJTgxbE

We’re deeply concerned about this story reported by Sky News in which a fake carer lived with a vulnerable older man for three months, despite being untrained and unregistered. This story points towards the crisis in social care, with deep issues around safeguarding and a lack of regulation that continues to put older people at risk of abuse and neglect. Introductory agencies or self-employed carers are not currently covered by the CQC’s remit and therefore situations like these fall through the cracks. Sadly, it’s vulnerable older people that end up paying the price. With a rapidly ageing population, the social care crisis is only going to get worse without urgent action from the government. We have to commit to a #SaferAgeingSociety. Out thoughts go out to David and his family who should never have experienced a situation such as this. 🔍 The Bizarre Tale of a Fake Carer and What It Reveals About the UK's Care Sector A recent story highlighted by Sky News sheds light on a troubling case where an unqualified individual managed to pass as a professional carer. Beyond the bizarre nature of the incident, it raises serious questions about systemic vulnerabilities within the UK's care industry which we most certainly need to take a closer look into. This case is a wake-up call about: ✔️ The urgent need for stronger vetting processes. ✔️ The importance of safeguarding our most vulnerable populations. ✔️ The growing challenges faced by an overstretched care system in maintaining quality and accountability. As our population ages, the demand for qualified, compassionate carers is only increasing. This story underscores the necessity for robust reforms—ensuring that care standards are upheld while addressing staffing shortages and the strain on care providers. How can we, as professionals, advocate for a system that protects both carers and those they serve? It's time we start a conversation about raising the bar in care and supporting those who dedicate their lives to helping others. #Healthcare #CareIndustry #ProfessionalStandards #UKCare #Leadership

Top five concerns of caregivers at GeroPsych Consultants Pte Ltd. 1. Managing Caregiver #Stress and Burnout 2. Balancing Multiple Roles 3. Understanding Dementia and Cognitive Decline 4. Handling Behavioural Challenges 5. Effective #Communication Techniques Here are the next five. 6. Navigating the #Healthcare System 7. Planning for the Future 8. Self-Care and Emotional #Resilience 9. Support Networks and Community Resources 10. Coping with Grief and Loss Caregivers would have some to much awareness about the available publicly-funded measures in Singapore to address the above concerns. Kudos to the #publichealth agencies in Singapore. Today it is not difficult to access many of the measures below. But this information often leaves these caregivers in stitches. For instance, respite care at a nursing home would take some day-to-day care burdens off for some duration of time. But the worry about how the older relative is doing in the nursing home lingers from the moment one awakes. Not a few experience this. Another caregiver whom I have seen was offered day rehabilitation for her stroke survival mother, together with subsidised transport and medical escort services. But the mother says, "I don't need it. I could do these exercises by myself". So the key question is ... "What works for me?" We often spend the rest of the session discussing what caregiving means and what it looks like. My heart goes out to them. Please share your thoughts with me. Feel free to add to the list of concerns above.

Each March, we celebrate National Social Work Month. In hospice care, social workers are part of the interdisciplinary team that provides services to patients and their caregivers at end-of-life. It’s important for the public not only to recognize social workers but to understand the invaluable services that they provide. Their core values include service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. Social workers are estimated to provide over 60% of mental health services in our country and social work is one of the fastest growing careers in the U.S. The National Association of Social Workers wants you to know that a recent survey conducted by them finds that only 45 percent of the 1.016 adults surveyed know that social workers play a key role in hospice care even though medical social work is a mandated service for patients enrolled in hospice care. Let’s celebrate these essential healthcare workers for the work they do to improve quality of life for hospice patients everywhere. #SocialWorkMonth2024 #hospice

Why choosing a CQC-registered agency over an introduction service matters in care. The recent story highlighted by Sky News about a fake carer sheds light on the vulnerabilities within the UK's care industry. It’s a stark reminder of why families should prioritize quality and accountability when choosing care services. Managed care provided by a CQC-registered agency offers unmatched benefits compared to the introduction model: ✔️ Ongoing management and support A dedicated team continually monitors the quality of care, supporting both the client and the Care Professional. This proactive oversight ensures the highest standards are maintained. ✔️ Continuity of care If issues arise, or if a carer is unavailable, a managed service can swiftly provide a replacement—avoiding disruption and safeguarding the client’s well-being. ✔️ Protection from legal and employment responsibilities When employing a carer directly through an introduction service, families may take on significant employer responsibilities, including maternity leave, sick pay, and more. The risks of an introduction model are clear: clients can be left without care or monitoring, while families bear unnecessary burdens. Choosing a managed, CQC-regulated service ensures peace of mind, continuity, and the highest standards of care. At Radfield Home Care we're proud to champion excellence in home care across the UK. Families deserve nothing less than fully managed, compassionate, and reliable care services. #HomeCare #CQCRegistered #CareStandards #QualityCare #UKCareIndustry #RadfieldHomeCare #SocialCare #Franchise 📢 A huge thank you to Sky News and Nick Martin for shining a light on this critical issue. Let’s work together to drive change in the care industry!
