It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from KPMG apprentices like Hope Deathridge, Nicole Gavaza, Jon Evans, Nadia Dabbagh-Hobrow, Ben Chapman and Sarah Agho . The session provided an exclusive look into life at one of the world’s leading professional services firms. Hi Network! I recently had the opportunity to attend the Insight to KPMG webinar, which provided an in-depth overview of the various roles available at KPMG, including; Business Services, Technology, Audit, Law, Consulting and Tax. These roles offer the unique opportunity to pursue professional qualifications and gain invaluable hands-on experience as part of a degree apprenticeship program, all while continuing your education (unless you choose the apprenticeship option). The webinar also covered the application process for degree apprenticeships at KPMG and highlighted the key attributes they seek in candidates, such as career motivation, curiosity, and effective communication which are essential qualities for excelling in any professional environment. Attending this webinar has given me a deeper understanding of the opportunities that degree apprenticeships provide, as well as the diverse experiences they can offer to support personal and professional growth. I am sincerely grateful to Young Professionals for presenting this opportunity and to KPMG for organizing this event.

Insights from a KPMG's survey of 100 CEOs about JOB Market and Degree requirements... The decision to drop the college degree requirement for certain jobs reflects a shift in the way companies perceive qualifications and skills. It suggests a recognition that practical skills and experience may be more valuable than a traditional degree in some roles. This can open up opportunities for individuals who may not have pursued higher education but have relevant skills or experience. However, there are potential impacts to consider. First, it could lead to increased competition for these roles, as more individuals may qualify based on skills alone. This might disadvantage those who have invested time and resources into obtaining a degree. Additionally, without a degree requirement, there could be concerns about maintaining quality standards and ensuring that candidates have the necessary knowledge and expertise for the job. 🏳️For students, this shift emphasizes the importance of acquiring practical skills and gaining relevant experience through INTERNSHIPS APPRENTICESHIPS CERTIFICATIONS They should focus on developing a diverse skill set that aligns with the demands of the job market and seek opportunities to demonstrate their abilities through projects or work experiences. In the future, students may need to adapt their educational paths to include a mix of traditional academics and hands-on learning opportunities. This could involve pursuing internships or co-op programs, gaining industry certifications, or participating in project-based learning experiences. By taking a proactive approach to skill development and staying adaptable to evolving job requirements, students can position themselves for success in a rapidly changing workforce landscape.

MAN5060: Competencies - The PwC Experience After today's lesson on competencies by Linlan Huang , I attended a PwC event. Two of their employees kindly spoke to attendees about the various opportunities that were open to current students and those who were due to graduate in the near future. Focusing on the job description and the specific competencies were the main takeaways. Know what you're applying for and research the role and the company extremely well (!) Coincidentally,for my MAN5060 assignment,I have to choose specific competencies and provide evidence of achieving them. Nice link between something I'm studying and the summer internship I'm going to apply for 😃 Another thing made me think (from uni all the way back home on the bus). That was self-belief. A year ago, I spoke with people from PwC who came to BCU at a career event. I knew they were one of the biggest companies in the UK,but at the time I didn't believe I had any chance. What has changed? I became the top-performing student in 1st yr of the HRM course. That in itself resulted in a change in how I think about myself and my career opportunities. I'm daring to dream BIG! There's fierce competition, which the speakers reminded us of. Ok. I'm not afraid of failure. I would regret not applying simply because thousands of other students are also hungry for a summer internship. I believe I have as good a chance as anyone else ☺️ Wiktoria Garczarczyk Hansa B. You might have heard the term ‘Big 4’ thrown around a lot. The ‘Big 4’ is the nickname used to refer to the four largest global accounting firms. The four are: Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG). Although they are known for accountancy, these titans offer a vast range of services. This reputation might make them seem daunting and unattainable, but these companies offer a fair number of internships and graduate schemes to university students. Being employed early on by one of the Big 4 will set you up for great future success. For the second consecutive year, PwC have been voted the UK’s number one graduate employer in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers survey 2024 which takes into account interviews from over 14,000 final year students across 20 UK universities.   The firm saw over 1,500 graduates and school leavers join over the course of 2024 with over 450 students also completing the summer internship programme.   Alongside this news, PwC have also introduced their Advancing Social Mobility Pathway this year as part of the firms Diversity in Business initiative, helping to boost the confidence and experience of first-year university students from lower socio-economic backgrounds and provide an insight into the opportunities available at PwC.   Read here: https://lnkd.in/eUHzUGPy.
