Coaching Teens to Overcome Academic Pressure and Low Motivation For the third week of our 6-week journey, we’re focusing on a common challenge for teens—academic pressure and low motivation. These can often lead to stress, self-doubt, and even burnout. As a parent-coach, your role is crucial in helping your teen manage these pressures constructively and regain their motivation. Instead of focusing solely on grades and outcomes, shift the focus to the effort and progress your teen is making. By working together to set realistic goals and develop a study plan, you can help them build the confidence and drive they need to keep moving forward. Here are a few coaching strategies to support your teen: 🍃 Set realistic goals: Break down larger tasks into manageable steps. This makes their academic workload feel less overwhelming and helps them stay motivated. 🍃 Focus on effort, not just results: Praise your teen for their hard work and persistence, not just the outcome. This reinforces the idea that growth comes through effort. 🍃 Celebrate small wins: Recognize and celebrate progress, no matter how small. This helps boost their confidence and keeps them motivated to tackle bigger challenges. 🍃 Reframe setbacks: Help your teen view setbacks as temporary and part of the learning process. Encourage them to reflect on what they can do differently next time, building their resilience and problem-solving skills. By adopting these strategies, you can support your teen in overcoming academic stress and fostering a growth mindset that will serve them well throughout their life. 📖 For more on nurturing a growth mindset, check out Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S.
