Why does Tamilnadu remain the top destination for higher education? Look at what Tamilnadu's Tallest Youth Leader, Champion of Inclusion and Embodiment of Compassion Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin Avl was doing last week in his constituency Chepauk-Triplicane. He was distributing financial assistance to all students in his constituency, whose parents found it difficult to meet the educational expenses of their kids. A total of Rs.10 million was given to 855 students. Dravidian Model aims to eradicate social injustices rising from diabolical practices such as caste system. How do you put an end to caste system? By placing a premium on educating all sections of society in Tamilnadu. It's has been found that those Dalits and OBCs who became civil service officers and top engineers and scientists have married people from the so-called upper castes including Brahmins. Education is a leveler. "Naan Mudhalvan" (which means I am Premier, also could mean Chief Minister) Scheme launched by the Dravidian Model Governance Proponent and the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Thiru M.K.Stalin Avl, is revolutionizing higher education. Under Naan Mudhalvan scheme, Tamilnadu Government is training college students in state -of -the- art skills, aimed at bridging the gap between university education and industry requirements with a special emphasis on placement. Launched in 2022, Naan Mudhalvan scheme had trained 2.8 million students by last year and placed about 1,48,000 students in jobs. With the world-class knowledge, the rest of the students could find placement in the rest of India and around the world. DMK lives inclusive development and social justice 24/7. The Alarming Education Crisis in Uttar Pradesh! Recent data from the Lok Sabha reveals a distressing scenario—over 11.7 million children across India are not enrolled in schools. Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for a staggering 7.85 lakh out-of-school students. States like Jharkhand and Assam are also grappling with thousands of children missing out on education. These numbers are more than statistics—they represent dreams deferred, potential lost, and futures at stake. Parliament's Education Minister Jayant Chaudhary responded to the question of Telugu Desham Party MP Mathukumili Shri Bharat from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh that more than 11 lakh 70 thousand students across the country are deprived of admission in schools. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of 28 new #NavodayaVidyalayas (NVs) in districts currently without such schools. This move is part of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme, a central initiative aimed at providing high-quality modern education to talented students, predominantly from rural areas, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. Key Highlights of the Initiative: 🔺Budget Allocation: A total fund of ₹2,359.82 crore has been allocated for the project, covering the period from 2024-25 to 2028-29. This includes ₹1,944.19 crore for capital expenditure and ₹415.63 crore for operational expenses. 🔺Beneficiary Impact: The new schools will collectively accommodate 15,680 students, with each NV having a capacity of 560 students. 🔺They will create 1,316 permanent employment opportunities, along with numerous indirect jobs for skilled and unskilled workers involved in construction and maintenance. 🔺Local vendors and service providers will also benefit from increased demand for supplies and services. 🔺Promoting Inclusivity: Navodaya Vidyalayas have seen significant enrolment of students from marginalized communities, with girls constituting 42% of admissions, while SC, ST, and OBC students make up 24%, 20%, and 39%, respectively. 🔺Enhanced Educational Standards: These fully residential, co-educational schools offer classes from VI to XII and have been consistently recognized for academic excellence. Their students excel in various competitive fields such as engineering, medicine, civil services, and the armed forces. 🔺Alignment with NEP 2020: Almost all NVs have been designated as PM SHRI schools, serving as model institutions to showcase the principles of the National Education Policy 2020. 🔺Districts to Benefit: The 28 NVs will be spread across several states, including Arunachal Pradesh (8 districts), Assam (6 districts), Manipur (3 districts), Karnataka (1 district), Maharashtra (1 district), Telangana (6 districts), and West Bengal (2 districts). Key districts include Upper Subansiri and Lohit in Arunachal Pradesh, Sonitpur in Assam, Bellary in Karnataka, Thane in Maharashtra, and Jhargram in West Bengal. 🔺A Step Towards Educational Equity: The establishment of these new schools is expected to bridge the educational divide between rural and urban areas, ensuring that talented children from underserved regions receive opportunities on par with urban India. Manpur, a village in the vicinity of Gaya town in Bihar, which is inhabited by small time weavers who run sort of cottage industries, witnesses its kids, both boys and girls, crack the JEE in substantial number year after year since the one son of the soil who was the first to crack the JEE set up kind of library with study materials where the aspirants huddle together and persevere. It's another Kota minus all its paraphernalia and attendant glamour. Then there is a school, Shoshit Saadhan Kendra, in Patna where fully subsidised residential facility is available for the mostly first generation learners belonging to Mushar community comprising of the most disadvantaged lot among the Dalits, who have excelled in performing the toughest of the Shakespearean plays with great felicity and have been awarded scholarships by prestigious foreign universities, they have proved their mettle in areas henceforth untrodden by anyone in their family. This initiative has come from a retired IPS officer, J K Sinha who is no more but the legacy continues. Then there are two variants of Super 30 by the renowned Anand Kumar as well as the top cop Abhayanand who nurture kids from socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society who seamlessly crack the JEE in substantial numbers year after year despite coming from the marginalised families. These initiatives have come from two individuals coming from diverse backgrounds. These three examples are from Bihar. Then there is JNV, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya having pan-India presence in every district, where also mostly first generation learners are given fully subsidised residential facility by the government. The alumni of these schools are spread not only across the length and breadth of the country but also dot the global landscape hoisting their academic brilliance in technical, professional and other services. This is a government initiative. The four examples cited above prove beyond even an iota of doubt that nature and nurture, the two columns which shape the kids and their future, are the areas where dedication and commitment can bring transformational changes. And thus the myth of merit and MERITOCRACY as peddled by the vested and entrenched interest groups from time immemorial implodes in a twinkle of eyes. No doubt that any selection process whether for admission into higher educational institutions or for jobs need to have a benchmark to weed out the overwhelming lot of aspirants. Currently this process is highly skewed in favour of those who can afford. The differentiator is the level playing field or equal opportunity to one and all without any hindrance/hurdle to their availability, accessibility and affordability. Does it exist?? NOPE. Is there any possibility of it happening in near future? NOPE. This is an area where all stakeholders need to put their head together and come out with appropriate roadmap and policy framework. Let's chase the chimera...

"Every child is a born scientist." This statement inspired me to develop a different perspective to look towards my students in Rajasthan state. During my stay in the village whenever I went to the field with my students, I could see a very sharp difference between these students in their school environment, and in their home/outer environment. It felt as if they lived two binary lives between school and home. In school, you could hardly see these students smile wider, move freely or talk their heart out. Whereas you will notice the different beings in them altogether in the outdoor space - Carefree, careless, moving freely, experiencing their agency to listen to their heart, do what they feel is the best! Ideally, the schools are supposed to be providing a conducive environment for effective learning and development in a fear-free environment. But unfortunately, none was true in case of these students for optimixing their learning scope and motivation. Their truest potential remain trapped and untapped! This should make us question the structures of schooling system. How can we assure students an agency to be their own selves in the school world, so that they do not have to fiddle between binary identities in their school and outdoor environments? As a school goer, I always experienced a disconnect between my school reality and the outdoor world. I always viewed it as two separate planes which are not meant to share any connections between them. On average, children in rural India spend 200+ days a year in school, making teachers a significant influence in their lives. Here are some stark facts on teaching in rural India: Over 1 million teaching positions in India's government schools are currently estimated as vacant. 69% of rural schools have fewer than 3 teachers for classes I to V. 27% of rural primary schools have only 1 teacher. 40% of rural secondary schools do not have enough subject-specific teachers. The teacher-studio ratio is as high as 1:60 in any rural school. A single committed teacher in a primary school in rural India can inspire over 120+ students every year, instilling values, knowledge, and hope. And contrary to popular belief, most of the teachers working in these schools are highly committed - often wearing multiple hats of teacher, assistant, school office executive, helper, and even counselor with little reward and support! #FromTheArchives | Conducted jointly with the Centre for Early Childhood Education and Development (CECED) at Ambedkar University Delhi, the longitudinal India Early Childhood Education Impact (IECEI) study followed a cohort of 14,000 four-year-old children from age 4 to 8. These children lived in rural areas of three very different states of the country: Assam, Rajasthan and Telangana. IECEI is unique in India because of its scale, its longitudinal design and the fact that it is a mixed-methods study, intended to provide depth as well as scale. Children were tracked over a period of four years to document their institutional participation; their school readiness levels and subsequent early grade learning outcomes were assessed; their classrooms were observed; and information was collected from their homes and preschools/schools. While the largest fraction of data collection used survey methodology to generate representative estimates of key indicators, a significant proportion employed comprehensive observation protocols, interviews and case studies to throw light on the underlying context and processes.
