The Alarming Education Crisis in Uttar Pradesh! Recent data from the Lok Sabha reveals a distressing scenario—over 11.7 million children across India are not enrolled in schools. Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for a staggering 7.85 lakh out-of-school students. States like Jharkhand and Assam are also grappling with thousands of children missing out on education. These numbers are more than statistics—they represent dreams deferred, potential lost, and futures at stake. Parliament's Education Minister Jayant Chaudhary responded to the question of Telugu Desham Party MP Mathukumili Shri Bharat from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh that more than 11 lakh 70 thousand students across the country are deprived of admission in schools. At DEVI Sansthan, we believe that education is the cornerstone of empowerment. By equipping young learners with Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills, we can transform not only individual lives but also the trajectory of our nation. Our Contribution to FLN: 1️⃣ Training Educators as Leaders – We empower teachers with innovative teaching methodologies, fostering a culture of lifelong learning. 2️⃣ Community-Centered Learning Models – Bridging the gap between schools and communities to create sustainable and inclusive education ecosystems. 3️⃣ Tech-Enabled Learning Resources – Leveraging technology to make quality education accessible to every child, regardless of their socio-economic background. 4️⃣ Policy Advocacy for FLN – Engaging with policymakers to prioritize foundational literacy and numeracy as a national imperative. It’s time for collective action to ensure every child’s Right to Education becomes a reality. Together, we can rewrite the future for these young minds and drive impactful change. P.S. I am happy that you have raised the pertinent issue of children not joining the school in such a sizable number in a state like Uttar Pradesh. It is just alarming. I hope it will catch the attention of the conscious and conscientious segment of society for immediately addressing the problem towards fixing the same.
The issue doesn't not lies with only 7.8 L children, what about others whom we have still not noticed, just like iceberg under the water. The challenge here lies in Design, Geography, implementation, infrastructure, capacity building, operation and robust monitoring and performance of teachers of the large scale Public education system. System can do anything if they want to, with their same resources, but if not who can?
Population is more No will
Hi mam, The number are concerning but we need to look at the bigger picture… I.e the reason of non- enrolments. 1.) Quality of education in institutions. 2.) Financial stability of the parents. 3.) Society driven mindset. There are many more hence the govt. and great educationist of institutions like yours must look into the factors responsible for the numbers growing each year.
Do let me know if I can help. 🙏🏾
Not much bad, those who are educated from majority of private and poor quality institutions even private university, what their standards of education. This should be reviewed by policies makers
Dr Sunita Gandhi every child has a right to study. The data revealed must raise concern and as citizens we must ensure that the literacy begins.
Coming from UP(Now in Uttarakhand) It’s heartbreaking to see so many kids missing out on education. Thank god I was privileged to have a school near my village. And I feel it is of utmost importance for every child to have a chance to learn and grow! Dr Sunita Gandhi

1wWe have adopted a young girl from Tikrakala and now she studies here in Noida with us. You should see the terrible curriculum design they have for the Hindi medium in the English subject. Shocking how they expect children from the Hindi Medium to study such complex English. The government really really needs to take immediate care to bring the standards and accessibility up. Girls are simply not sent to schools.
