“Every patient interaction is personal. Treat each one like family.” – Fayoke Fatade, DNP, RN, NEA-BC What does it take to balance an unwavering passion for patient care, raise a family of three, and lead a team of perioperative professionals in today’s demanding healthcare environment? For Fayoke Fatade, it’s about heart, resilience, and a commitment to empowering others. 💪 Fayoke’s journey began in Nigeria, where her parents, both advanced practice nurses, inspired her passion for healthcare. Initially dreaming of becoming a surgeon, she discovered her true calling in nursing, where deep human connections made all the difference. But her path wasn’t easy. As a single mother to three active kids, she earned her doctorate while juggling full-time work and family responsibilities. 💬 “I didn’t know how I did it, but somehow, I made it through,” she said. Today, with 15+ years of experience, Fayoke is a trailblazer at Stamford Health. As a nurse manager, she ensures every patient receives personalized, compassionate care. ✨ And Fayoke’s leadership goes beyond patient care—she’s a mentor, a problem solver, and a champion for her team. From addressing workforce recruitment challenges to tailoring her leadership approach for a multi-generational staff, she’s dedicated to building a positive culture in a complex healthcare environment. 💬 “It’s not just about compensation; it’s about culture. People need to feel supported and motivated to stay,” she said. Whether leading trauma teams, assisting in open-heart surgeries, or helping patients navigate overwhelming healthcare experiences, Fayoke’s compassion and clarity shine. 💬 “Healthcare can be scary if patients don’t understand. I make it a point to explain things simply, so they feel in control of their care,” she said. Nursing is more than a career; it’s a calling. But stress, fatigue, and the relentless pace can sometimes overshadow the passion that brought us here. Now more than ever, we need to focus on finding moments of joy and fulfillment to sustain ourselves—because if our cups are empty, we can’t continue to pour into others. ☕💙 At Fifth Window, we’re working to change the narrative by empowering nurses to prioritize their well-being, redefine success, and rediscover joy in their profession. Fifth Window’s tools and resources provide nurses with space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what keeps them energized, fulfilled, and resilient. 🌱✨ Where does joy come from in our day-to-day? It can be as simple as: That spark of connection when a patient feels truly heard and cared for 🩺 Celebrating small victories that remind us we’re making a difference, even if in just one life 🌟 Support from a teammate, sharing a laugh, or knowing someone has our back 😊 Embracing a new skill or bit of knowledge that reignites our purpose 📚 Taking a breath—literally and figuratively—and finding a quiet moment for ourselves 🌞 These moments can be easy to miss but are worth prioritizing. Let’s give ourselves permission to look after our own well-being, find our own sources of joy, and support each other in that pursuit. 🙏💪 How do you refill your cup? Shared experiences are powerful. I was talking to a nurse friend, and I realized our language is just different, and our connection is one-of-a-kind. Nursing offers a unique set of experiences that are deeply personal and often profound, reflecting healthcare's complex and emotional nature. Experiences that only other nurses understand. 1️⃣ Emotional Weight of Patient Care - We know the emotional rollercoaster of health crises, recovery, and loss and often ride it with our patients and their families. 2️⃣ Highs & Lows of Saving & Losing Lives - The exhilaration of saving a life or witnessing recovery against all odds is unparalleled. Conversely, the deep sorrow of losing a patient despite our efforts can be heart-wrenching. 3️⃣ Multitasking Under Pressure - We routinely juggle multiple tasks, patients, and critical decisions in a fast-paced environment, and we learn this on the job under challenging circumstances. 4️⃣ Silent Language of Patient Needs - We have an unmatched intuition and often understand the patient's needs without words. 5️⃣ Challenges of Patient Advocacy - We use courage, persistence, and dedication to navigate the complex healthcare system to meet patient needs. 6️⃣ Reality of Working Short-Staffed - We feel the pressure of covering more patients than is ideally safe and see the adverse outcomes. It tests our skills, endurance, and dedication to a profession we love. No matter how long you have stayed at the bedside or been away, this is our private language, and we can always connect on these shared experiences. #nursing #nursesonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin #nurses #nurselife #reality

💚✨ “It’s not about surviving; it’s about thriving.” ✨💚 On Monday night, I had the amazing opportunity to see a sneak peek of the Wicked movie. The incredible talent on the screen—both in the performances and the storytelling—left me inspired and reminded me of the extraordinary talent we see every day in nursing. As nurses, we navigate challenges, care for others, and face complex emotions every day. But at the heart of it all, there’s a powerful question: 🌟 What brings you joy in nursing? For me, joy is: 🌱 Watching students grow into confident, compassionate nurses. 🤝 Collaborating with colleagues to create innovative solutions for patient care. 💡 Seeing the “aha” moment when a connection is made—whether with a patient, a student, or a peer. Just as the cast of Wicked brings a unique brilliance to the screen, nurses bring incredible talent and creativity to improving healthcare. We are innovators, advocates, and caregivers who transform lives—often in ways we may not even realize at the moment. Much like Elphaba and Glinda, who embrace their unique paths while inspiring one another, we find joy in the relationships we build and the lives we touch. Joy doesn’t erase the hard moments—it strengthens us to thrive through them. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the bright spots: the patients whose smiles remind us why we do this, the teams that lift us up, and the purpose that keeps us going. 🎶 What’s one moment of joy you’ve experienced in your nursing or healthcare journey? Let’s spread a little green-inspired positivity today. 💚🌟 Fifth Window #NurseYourJoy #NursesOnLinkedIn #HealthcareOnLinkedIn #WickedMusical #ResilienceAndJoy #PositiveConnections #Nurses #Nursing #NursingWorkforce

Mary (Vickie) Watkins What is the most important trait or quality a nurse can possess? And why? "The most important trait for nurses to have is empathy and altruism, which means caring about others before yourself. This helps nurses give their patients the best care and create an environment where they can heal. Not only does the nurse love and care for her patient, she also does it for herself. Being selfless is important for nurses to show compassion and empathy, which makes the setting better for the patient and helps them heal. To be a nurse, you have to be tolerant of everyone. I think that everyone is equal and should be treated the same, no matter what else is going on. This means that the nurse has to treat all of the patients the way they would treat their own family members if they were in their care. As a result, a nurse believes that all people are equal and deserve respect, no matter their age, gender, health, social or racial background, political beliefs, religious membership, or criminal record. Nurses are honest and have ethics. They follow the rules of being fair, honest, and ethical while doing their job of caring for the sick and injured. They need to hold each other to the highest levels of ethics and professionalism. Nurses should also be honest with their coworkers and with people who depend on them. Nurses are also responsible for making sure their professional groups, coworkers, and patients get safe, high-quality care." Describe a situation where you were especially proud of your healthcare team. "What I notice on my unit is rather common. There are a lot of hospice patients, which is something we take pleasure in, and we know how to help them during their last days. As the family fears their loved one has passed away, the nurse is brought to the room. With tears in her eyes, she leaves, knowing she has ensured her patient's comfort and pain relief. There’s something very special about caring for someone in their last weeks or days of life, and to be able to ensure their care needs are met and that they die with dignity and respect, with loved ones around them. My job is very rewarding – it is very challenging and at times heartbreaking, but it is an absolute privilege to work for Midland Health." #NURSESWEEK #midlandhealth #nurses #nurselife #americannurseassociation #texasnursesassociation

You don't need another degree. #Nurses, let’s talk about why you don’t need another degree to start a Care Management agency and contribute to the inevitable transition to Value-Based Care. Less than three years ago, I started my care management agency. Armed with an ADN and 20 years of nursing experience in various areas, I was confident I could succeed without a formal background in care management. And I haven’t looked back. I often speak with advanced practice nurses who believe they need more experience as a care manager before starting their own business. But you already have the tools you need. You've been doing the work for years. Understanding the programs and your role in implementing, developing, and ensuring these programs are effective is crucial. I chose to start my business instead of going back to school, and I don’t regret it. While I may eventually pursue my BSN, for now, I know that my existing knowledge, resources, and mentors are enough. As nurses, we are the bridge connecting patients and providers. We are the connectors, and care management comes naturally to us. You have the skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. You’ve developed these skills through years of experience in different nursing roles. Believe in your abilities and take the leap. You don't need another degree to make a significant impact in the world of Value-Based Care. Remember, you have the tools. You just have to believe that you do. That’s how I started, and you can too. #NurseEntrepreneurship #CareManagement #ValueBasedCare #NursingLeadership #nursesofLinkedIn

Going Above and Beyond in Patient Care As nurses, we often face hectic schedules and countless tasks to juggle. But amidst the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day responsibilities, it's crucial to remember the human element of our profession. Recently, I had the privilege of assisting in a different ward due to staffing shortages. While there, I encountered an elderly gentleman whose wound dressing was causing him considerable discomfort, affecting his ability to rest. Despite not considering wound dressing my strongest suit, I knew I had to step in to help. What transpired during that interaction left a profound impact on me. As I meticulously tended to his wound, we engaged in conversation. It was during this exchange that he posed a question that stopped me in my tracks: "Why are you different from your colleagues?" His words resonated deeply. Over his five-week stay, he had experienced care that focused primarily on the clinical aspects, lacking the personal touch and empathy he longed for. In sharing my background, I mentioned being from Kenya, to which he reminisced about his time in the British Navy and his experiences in Kenya, highlighting the Kenyan hospitality and generosity he encountered. His gratitude for the time I took to understand his concerns, explain his treatment, and provide compassionate care reminded me of the importance of going beyond the basics. As nurses, we're not just providers of medication and treatments; we're companions on a patient's journey to healing. Taking a few extra moments to connect with those under our care can make all the difference in their experience. Let's always strive to be the difference—the nurse who listens, empathises, and treats each patient with the dignity and respect they deserve. After all, it's not just about tending to wounds; it's about tending to hearts. 💙 #nursing #healthcare #nurse #nurses #safety #compassion #linkedinnurses #care #caring
