What a whirlwind of a year! We would like to thank the therapists that contributed to bringing natural and complementary therapies to life at The Hague Natural Health Centre in 2024. It's not easy working in natural and complementary therapy because it takes patience and time to get to the cause of illness. Occasionally there are quick fixes but more often, it takes time to get through the layers of suppression. One of our goals at the Health Centre is to bring various practitioners together, collaborating under one roof in order to contribute to a healthier society. The modalities continue to change as we adapt and grow, learning what works and where to improve. To celebrate one year of the centre's opening, we are offering the community a chance to experience our therapies on January 18, 2025 at an anniversary price of €35 for two 30 minute sessions. Health iPhAMA-thon 2024 #3 Lesson learnt on #healthyageing 🚗 Consider our journey through life as akin to driving a car. In the early years, much like servicing a new vehicle regularly, we focus on preventive measures to ensure peak performance. We wash the car often, monitor its condition through scheduled services, and address issues promptly to protect its longevity. Yet, how often do we apply this meticulous care to a used car after a decade on the road? We are probably not going to scrutinise every single diagnostic parameter as we know that age brings natural wear and tear. We don't rush to fix every minor glitch; instead, we gauge its functionality. If it still smoothly takes us from point A to B and doesn't resemble a sauna inside, we continue using it just fine. Now, transpose this scenario to our approach to ageing. 🔍 Shifting our #perspective, healthy ageing isn't about constantly running blood tests and fine-tuning every parameter. Instead, it's adopting a nuanced approach, managing advanced chronic conditions when necessary, and prioritising a #dignified late life. 🌱 #Geriatricians, much like expert mechanics for our bodies, understand the unique needs of the elderly. Their approach is rooted in promoting a dignified late life, emphasising quality over quantity. 🤝 Let's advocate for a paradigm shift in our approach to healthy ageing. Instead of obsessing over every single parameter that might signal an issue, let's prioritise interventions that truly enhance well-being and preserve autonomy. Healthy ageing is about embracing while enjoying the journey, managing advanced chronic conditions judiciously, and ensuring that every year adds value and vitality to our lives. Fall prevention strategies are critical for: 🕰️ "Adding life to years" 🚫 Delaying functional decline ❤️ Improving health outcomes for older adults with cognitive frailty. 📊 Study Findings A recent study by Ryan Falck et al. demonstrated that a home-based exercise program, like the #OTAGO, significantly reduced #falls among older adults with cognitive #frailty. What if the key to revolutionizing healthcare for Latinas isn't in a lab, but in our abuela's kitchen? As founder and host of Encuentras Your Voice Podcast, an Encuentras Media, LLC flagship platform for Latina visionaries, change makers, and leaders to share their journeys, I'm struck by the profound connections in their experiences. Monica Islas, ATC, founder of Body Wellness, LLC, shared how her father suffered irreversible damage from medications prescribed by a doctor. This wasn't a struggle with pain management - it was a stark example of how conventional medical practices can sometimes fail our community. Cecilia Romo 's story echoed this experience.
