It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. NATO or other Organizations are also responsible for protecting our forests and oceans and all humanity with peace . They should respect to all thoughts without considering racism and finally developing to keep our planet Earth . We have no other place to live as alternative except Earth . Ahead of Earth Day this year, we took a trip to one of our favourite parts of South Africa, Tsitsikamma (place of abundant water from the native Khoi language). ⛰️ Nothing can quite prepare you for the beauty of this landscape, mountains and forests as far as the eye can see with occasional sharp drops into 100+ meter canyons. This particular area along the famous Garden Route has some spectacular attractions: 🐒 Our daughter, Ava's favourite of all attractions was Monkeyland - the world's first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary. A home to over 550 primates of 18 different species including gibbons, lemurs, and various monkeys. The sanctuary covers 12 hectares of indigenous forest where the primates live in a more natural habitat. 🦜 Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, housing over 3500 previously-caged birds of more than 200 species, with a focus on African birds. The aviary spans 2.3 hectares of forest with 1.2 km of walkways for visitors to spot the birds at their own pace. 🌁 For the more adventurous, The Bloukrans Bridge Bungy is the world's highest commercial bungy jump from a bridge, with a height of 216 meters (709 feet). And no, I definitely did not frequent this particular attraction. One thing that this weekend reminded me of was how fortunate we are to call this floating rock and all its spectacular landscapes home. #COLORSOFTHEOCEAN_29 PART 1 OF 2 Hanau ka po ia honu kua nanaka….From the darkness of time came the sea turtle with its plated back. (Kumulipo: a Hawaiian creation chant) This is a beautiful Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle gracefully swimming thru the reef. We, in Hawaii, call it a Honu. Scientists call them Chelonia mydas. They are a life form that have remained unchanged for 110 million years. They are endangered and protected in the Hawaiian waters. There are Green Sea Turtles found throughout the world, but the Honu, or Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle, exist only in the Hawaiian archipelago. They are genetically distinct from the other areas. Turtles can live to be between 60-90 years of age. They can dive up to depths of 1500 feet, and hold their breath upwards of 5 hours. It is said that they have great eyesight while under the water. However, on land or above the water they have been reported to be near-sighted. There are 7 different species of sea turtles worldwide. Honu is the most commonly seen species seen in Hawaii. They are the largest hard-shelled sea turtle in the world. They can grow 3-4 feet in length and can weigh 300 pounds or more. The shell in not green as the name suggests. The upper shell, which is called the carapace, ranges from brown to yellow-ish with some brown, green, or black streaking. The bottom shell, which is called the plastron, is light yellow or cream-ish in coloration. Their name (Green Sea Turtle) actually comes from their diet. Due to all the algae consumed as adults, their tissue, fat, and meat are in fact green! Some Hawaiian legends say that the Honu guided the Polynesians to the Hawaiian Islands. Some legends say Kauila, a giant sea turtle goddess would transform into a human girl to play with and protect the Keiki or children along the shore of Punalu’u on the Big Island. This is why they are considered by many as a form of ‘aumakua or ancestral spirit that offers guidance, protection, wisdom, and peace. They serve as link between man, land, and sea. The Rains Come Early Unusually heavy rainfall in the southern Serengeti during the early months disrupted the migration's usual rhythm. Abundant, fresh grazing in these areas caused the wildebeest to linger longer, deviating from their traditional path. Adapting to Abundance Demonstrating remarkable adaptability, the wildebeest are currently concentrated in the western corridor and Grumeti Reserves, taking advantage of the extended bounty provided by the heavy rains. A Symphony of Survival The journey is not solitary. Zebras often accompany the wildebeest, grazing alongside them. Their keen sense of smell helps locate fresh pastures, showcasing the interconnectedness of the Serengeti ecosystem. A Dynamic Dance Continues As the dry season progresses, the wildebeest are inevitably heading north towards the Mara River, following their inherent drive. And we'll begin by honouring the majesty of the European beech. 👑 Diving into Belgian forests, you often find yourself under the magnificent canopy of the European beech (Fagus sylvatica). These towering giants grace the landscapes of the Ardennes, the Sonian Forest and beyond, colouring the landscapes with their vibrant green foliage in spring and summer. 🌿 Standing tall, European beeches can reach impressive heights, soaring up to 40 metres! ☀ More than just a natural spectacle, these hardy trees are the epitome of strength and endurance and their lifespan spans centuries, reaching up to 300 years or more. As steadfast guardians of the forest, they provide shelter and sustenance for a variety of flora and fauna, enriching Belgium's ecosystems. 🌳🐦🐜 ✨ Symbolically, the European beech represents wisdom, longevity and prosperity.
