Climate Week is happening this week in NYC and we're ready with a primer on how HAPS technology can help reduce the environmental footprint of communications infrastructure and be a useful tool in general efforts to combat global temperature rise. Digitalization is revolutionizing various sectors, and rangeland restoration is no exception. It offers a powerful toolkit for decision making and evidence based monitoring. By harnessing the power of Earth observation, the LISTEN project has been able to visually track the restoration process by comparing Remote Sensing snapshots taken before, during and after reseeding. This longitudinal data analysis provides critical insights into the effectiveness of reseeding efforts, helping to identify areas of success and those that require further intervention. Such insights are invaluable for both short-term restoration efforts and long-term planning, ultimately strengthening ecosystem resilience and promoting sustainable land management practices in these vital rangelands. #Impact_that_matters #digitalization #Spatial_Analysis

#UrbanGreening is more crucial than ever as a protection against extreme heat. A recent study based in #Tacoma, #Washington, shows that trees are a frontline defense against urban heat. The study showed a significant 2.57°C difference in air temperature observed depending on tree cover. Areas with full canopy coverage had up to five times lower risk of exceeding state-regulated heat thresholds compared to those without. As the world grapples with the realities of climate change, there’s a growing recognition that proactive design can play a crucial role in making communities in flood-prone areas more resilient and efficient. The recent typhoon-induced floods in Vietnam and China and rampant flooding in Thailand serve as stark reminders of this urgent need. The World Bank estimates that 1.81 billion people are at risk of severe flooding, yet many buildings are not equipped to protect their inhabitants from such disasters. „It‘s the environment, stupid“. From Berlin to Mexico, from Barcelona to Boise, cities are really starting to face a water crisis! The Water issue is everywhere at Bloomberg #CityLab24. The Climate Crisis has arrived in cities across the globe and its impact is accelerating fast. It is one of my big takeaways: massive investments need to go into mitigation and adaptation at the same time. But we need to make sure, adaptation efforts don’t jeapordise our efforts on carbon reductions. We need #CityIntelligence, smart investments and data-sharing between infrastructure providers to tackle the water crisis in a systemic way and in collaboration with citizens and local industries.
