Engineering solutions to protect cities from the effect of climate change. This is another example of sea flood barrier. #Climate problem is not linear it is a web of problem. Climate change isn't just about temperature rise, it is much more than that. The complex interlinkages include #public_health, #air and #water quality, #biodiversity_loss, #unemployment, and even peace and security. It is the time that we shift our #focus toward #sustainable transition. 🌎 On World Climate Change Day, we are reminded of the devastating impacts our planet faces more than ever. More frequent and intense weather patterns are not only disrupting lives but also damaging vital infrastructure and affecting communities in profound and lasting ways. Recent floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, and other parts of the world highlight the urgent need for collective action.   🤝 At Plus Minus Engineering & Consulting, we recognize our responsibility to confront climate change head-on. We’ve contributed to the development of the Just Resilience program in one of the Western Balkan countries. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of government institutions, policymakers, and officials to implement fair and effective adaptation strategies. By focusing on better coordination, cooperation, research, and capacity building, the Just Resilience ensures that adaptation efforts address the varying vulnerabilities and exposures to climate change, helping to prevent and reduce inequalities.   🌿 However, tackling climate change is a shared responsibility. Interesting and alarming information on this website. Modelling climate effects in NSW out to 2021. The interactive charts show extremes in temperature, rainfall and more and are highly configurable. Two scenarios: “low emissions” 1.2 degrees by 2050 and “high” at 2 degrees, I’d say are both over optimistic. Note the huge differences between these - meaning even more dire consequences if we exceed 2 degrees. I’ve only had a cursory look but will definitely do a deeper dive. #climate #auspol #environment #holyshit

Extreme weather events have significantly increased in frequency over the past 20 years. From 2000 to 2019, there were 7,348 major natural disasters globally, compared to 4,212 in the previous 20 years, marking an 83% increase. This surge in frequency is largely attributed to climate change, which has led to more frequent and severe floods, storms, droughts, wildfires, and heatwaves.
